School Supplies for Jesus
|
Our July mission opportunity is to collect school supplies for Jesus. If you were in church or joined by Zoom last Sunday, you know what I mean. The children and I talked about how Jesus, in Matthew 25, said that when we provided for those less fortunate than ourselves, we were providing for him.
This month, we are joining with other churches across our district to fill back-to-school backpacks for the Methodist Children’s Home School. Please pick up one or more of the items from the list below and bring them to church on or by July 23. The district clergy and families will gather on the 24th to assemble the bags.
Requested Items:
- 3-ring binders with interior pockets
- wide-ruled notebook paper
- writing tablets for primary grades
- composition notebooks
- pencil boxes or pouches
- dry-erase markers
- highlighters
- crayons
- markers
- colored pencils
- #2 pencils
- pens (black or blue)
- erasers
- glue sticks
- pocket folders
- school scissors
Let’s help equip our children at the Home for a great school year, and give to Jesus at the same time!

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE AUGUST 8
|
|
Vineville has hosted several blood drives for the American Red Cross for years. We are one of the last churches to host regular collection drives. Hundreds of lives are saved every year because of the blood collected at Vineville. This is another way that you make a difference.
The August drive is important, as increased demand in the summer months depletes the reserves. The Red Cross needs our help; they need our help to save lives. Please sign-up to give on Tuesday, August 8 between 12:30 and 6:00. To schedule an appointment, email our Blood Drive chair, Ron Thompson (ron.thompson@cox.net), or call the Macon Red Cross facility at (478) 743-8671. You can also download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, where you can schedule appointments, view your blood type and results of your mini-physical, and track your donations.
The need for blood is constant and our donation can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds. This is an opportunity for us to make sure that this lifesaving resource is available.
Peace,

FARMER'S MARKET NEXT WEEK
|
|
In 2018, a Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue closed, and the area around our church became classified as a food desert. A food desert is defined as an area with little to no access to affordable nutritious food. This means that although there are grocery stores in the city of Macon, there are limited transportation routes to them, causing many communities to rely on purchasing their food from convenience stores with a limited supply of nutritional food options for sometimes double or triple the price.
Next Monday, July 24th, through Friday, July 28th, we will have a local farmer's market in the VUMC parking lot. This joint project with the US Department of Health seeks to provide fresh, locally-grown produce to our community for little to no cost. The market will take place in the VUMC parking lot all next week, and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide access to nutritional foods despite the effects of the food desert. We hope our surrounding community will take part in this opportunity to provide fresh, healthy food to themselves and their families.
