Let There Be Light
I don’t know about you, but since the time changed, I miss the light. I miss the long evenings at home with enough light to take a walk or wander the yard. While it is nice to see the sun on the way into the office, I still miss the evening light. That is one of the attractions of Christmas lights. Whether a simple candle or an elaborate display the lights of the season are a sign that the light will not be overcome by the dark. The LIGHT wins!

Next Monday, November 21st at 6:00, we will gather to light the lights of the season. We will prepare the sanctuary, CLC, dining room, and lobby by decorating trees. A free supper will be served at 6:00. Call the church or go on REALM to make a reservation. We don’t want to run out of pizza! After the decorating is done, we will gather in the sanctuary to sing carols and light the Chrismon tree. This has become a great time of intergenerational fellowship and worship, one of the best nights of the year!

Wesley Glen, our ministry to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is going to be lighting up their campus. They are starting a new tradition called Christmas at the Cross. It is going to be a spectacular Christmas event for Wesley Glen and the community. It will be held the first two Saturdays in December, the 3rd and the 10th, from 6 - 8 pm. It is a free event although donations will gladly be accepted. We will have the mile loop on campus lined with 880 luminaries, and white lights will shimmer on trees, the bridge, and the shrubs in front of each house on campus. This new Christmas tradition will be an experience for the eyes and heart. The 5-ton, 4-story high Cross will be lit up, and we will have a live nativity in front of the chapel with residents dressed and participating in the nativity. There will be live animals, too!
For a $5 donation, you may place a luminary in memory or in honor of someone special. Go to our website www.wesleyglenministries.com to donate for a luminary. Both nights, as guests arrive at the entrance of Wesley Glen's campus, they will receive a program featuring the names of all who have donated, and the names for whom luminaries are honoring or remembering.
Some Vineville folk have helped put up the lights this week. There will be opportunities for more to help put out luminaries on the 3rd and the 10th. Volunteers will also be needed to direct traffic. If you or your group is interested in helping, please contact Mia M. Geiger at 471-3711 ext. 106 or email mgeiger@wesleyglen.org. Make your Christmas a bright one by adding Christmas at the Cross to your list.
I look forward to gathering with you to hang the lights, admire the lights and worship the one true light.
Peace,
