Rev. Maddie Henderson Preaching as We Observe United Methodist Student Sunday
Last June, Maddie Henderson was commissioned as a deacon and was admitted as a provisional member of the South Georgia Conference. As many of you will remember, Maddie grew up at Vineville. She was baptized in the sanctuary by her grandfather, Don Kea. She was part of Sunday school and youth here. While a teacher at Stratford, she served as a volunteer with the youth and she has made many ski trips and Exodus pilgrimages. It was as a teacher that she answered the call of God and went to seminary at Boston University, our oldest United Methodist Theological School. Maddie worked as an admissions counselor at the school after graduation. Her goal was to become a college chaplain.

Her hard work has paid off. She is now the Christian Chaplain at Emory University. Her responsibilities include: leading and coordinating the Beloved Community Christian worship service; offering scripture studies, retreats, spiritual and educational programs, holiday celebrations, pastoral care, rituals and vigils, and connections to service and social justice opportunities; as well as supporting Christian student organizations and religious life affiliates. Maddie seeks to be a resource and an ecumenical connection for all of the vibrant Christian communities at Emory, and she also connects campus with various denominational groups.
With three generations of her family here at Vineville, we are glad to welcome her back home. As she now serves students on the Emory campus Student Sunday is the perfect occasion for her to preach. Maddie will be preaching at both 9:00 and 11:00 this Sunday. You will want to be in your place!
For many students, the major challenge in attaining a college or seminary degree is the lack of financial support. Worrying about expenses adds to the already existing anxieties youth experience and it may take away from their ability to excel in their studies or activities. For students attending United Methodist Churches though, we extend a hand to help.
For more than 100 years, United Methodists have been supporting their students’ educational needs through a special offering. The funds received from the offering go into the United Methodist Student Loan Fund to underwrite scholarships for United Methodist students. In an average year, nearly $250,000 is given to the United Methodist Student Day Sunday offering cross the connection. This offering helps provide over 70 scholarships available for United Methodist students to further their education and enrich the life of the Church.
Right now, there are United Methodist young people who might not have the resources to attend a school of their choice, or, for some, any school at all, but because of people like you, they will be sent into the world God loves with gifts made through United Methodist Student Day. Our contributions are an acknowledgment that the church has confidence in them and in their abilities. Our gifts are deposits of hope from generation to generation.
Peace,

ADVENT DEVOTIONALS ARE HERE
|
|
Advent is on our doorstep!
This Sunday marks the first Sunday in Advent. In order to guide you on your journey this year, Vineville UMC wants to gift you an Advent Devotional around the names of Christ. Advent books are complementary for all families as we make our way together toward Christmas.
If you purchased the ornament and book sets, your book and ornaments are ready to be picked up in the lobby of the office area. Simply find the bag with your name on it and drop your check for $36.00 in the basket. Remember that a portion of each set goes to support missions here at Vineville. Reese will have the children's DIY ornament kits available on Sunday as well.
It’s been a joy to put together this Advent guide for all of you. Special thanks to Jenna Claire Gilmer who produced the book and made it look so fabulous.
Advent Blessings -

SEARCHING FOR A CHURCH PUBLICIST
|
|
Although Jenna Claire Gilmer has only been here a few months, she has become a beloved member of our support staff as Church Publicist. She will be getting married in January and will be moving to Tennessee where her fiancé has accepted a job with the Tennessee Titans. Jenna Claire leaves big shoes to fill and will be greatly missed.
Since Jenna Claire is leaving, the church is now searching for a new Church Publicist. This full-time position, with benefits, would include, but is not limited to; preparing, formatting, and printing weekly Sunday bulletins; creating, formatting, and sending the weekly online and printed church newsletter; preparing and printing regular and bulk mailings. This person would also create church posters, banners, and online publications. He/she would also assist the pastor and other staff members with correspondence and other church-related needs. Computer software skills with programs like Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and Canva are required. This person would also need to have an understanding of printers and copiers. People skills and being a team player are also a must.

This online auction is a great way to shop local and support the ministry of Wesley along the way! Wesley of Macon is a college campus ministry of the United Methodist Church serving at Mercer University, Middle Georgia State University, and Wesleyan College that helps students grow spiritually by worshiping freely, following Christ, and serving with impact. Students on all three campuses and from the greater Macon area participate in worship, discipleship, fun, contemplation, prayer, retreats, mission trips, community service and engagement, and leadership opportunities.
