Sunday Service:
More of Your Questions Answered
First, take a deep breath. Relax. This is going to be good. It is different. It does involve a change in our routine. I know there are unanswered questions, but it will all work out. Approach it as an exercise in faith. Remember, when Jesus called the first disciples, there were more questions than answers. The invitation was to an adventure. They just went. Let that spirit guide us. Think about Moses in the desert with no Google Maps. Until they started walking each day, they had no idea which way they would be going. It's another good story to help reduce our anxiety about details and trust.
Second, the question was raised about working on the Sabbath after last week’s message on the 10 Words. I am glad somebody asked- that means they were listening! You will remember Jesus was asked the same question. Jesus says explicitly in Mathew 12:12 that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. He follows up his pronouncement by healing a man with a withered hand. Since Jesus said we could and he himself did good works on the Sabbath, I think we will be just fine.
I think it will help to keep our goals in mind. We want to show love to our community and make a positive difference in the lives of others. We want to be witnesses for Christ. We want to work side by side with other Vineville folks. We want to get to know somebody better. We want to worship. We want to fellowship around the table. While we are helping others we can build the church. The conversations while painting, packing, and pressure washing build relationships and strengthen the body of Christ. Too much of life is zoom in and zoom out. To have a few hours to work, worship, laugh, talk, and eat with our church family is a real gift. Let’s make the most out of it by being present and fully participating.

A Little More About the Work:
The Methodist Home @ Tags of Hope
Leader: Lonnie Bivins
Tags of Hope Thrift store is located at 3342 Vineville Avenue. This project will begin at 8:30 and run until 11:20 when workers will travel to Vineville for the 11:45 worship service. We will be cleaning, sorting, and staging within the store and also sorting through a storage bin behind the store. Lonnie Bivins, one of the vice-presidents for the Methodist Home, will be at the store to direct this team. Other workers can join this team after the 8:30 start if needed. The more help we have, the more we can do for Tags of Hope!

Neighborhood Trash Pick-Up
In need of a leader
Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful will provide vests, gloves, bags, pickers, and a dumpster for the bags. This team will gather at the church at 9:00 and divide into groups. We need one or more persons with a pickup or a trailer to transport the filled bags to the dumpster that will be in the scout parking lot. Other workers can join this team even if they arrive after the start time. They should come to the church, get their gear, and join the team. The team will stop in time to be in the sanctuary at 11:45 for worship. We are looking for a team leader for this project.

Habitat for Humanity
Leader: Ivey Hall
The “Light More Homes” Christmas light display is a major fundraiser for Habitat. It is also a beautiful celebration of Christmas shared with our community. So many people will drive and walk through the display during the holidays. The funds raised from Light More Homes sponsors (it is free for the community) are used to do just that - light more homes. Putting up all the lights takes time and people. This team will meet Ivey at 8:30 at the Mercer Police Station parking lot on Stadium Drive. Workers on this team must be 12 or older. While some of this work is on a step ladder, much of it can be done from the ground. Everything needed will be provided. The more help we have the more lights we can put up! This group will stop in time to return to Vineville for the 11:45 worship service.

Wesley Glen
Leader: Mike Kinnebrew
Mike Kinnebrew and some of the youth will lead a hymn sing for the residents at Wesley Glen, located at 4580 North Mumford Road. This group, which is open to all ages, will assemble at 9:30 in the chapel at Wesley Glen. There will be time to fellowship with the residents along with plenty of time to sing. Our friends at Wesley Glen love to sing, and they love people. This team will wrap up at 11:00 and head back to the church. Mike is helping to lead the service at 11:45, so he will need time to get back and be ready for worship.

Magnolia Manor
In need of a leader
Vineville has a long history of support for the Manor. They have identified three projects for the 22nd. We will pressure wash the front porches and garage doors of the 16 villas. If you have a pressure washer, bring it. The more we have, the more that gets washed! They have 4 benches that need to be painted. Materials will be there. They also have some rocking chairs that need to be cleaned. This team will meet at 200 Pierce Ave., and will stop work and pack up in time to be at Vineville for worship at 11:45. We are looking for a team leader for this location.

Rebuilding Macon
Leader: Bill Argo
For many years we have partnered with Rebuilding Macon to help homeowners in our community with repairs and improvements. Rebuilding Macon recently built a handicap ramp for our neighbors at 1984 2nd Ave. This team will paint the ramp in addition to doing some basic yard work. The team will meet at 8:30 in the back parking lot at L. H. Williams, which is across the street from the house on 2nd Ave. Please bring yard tools, and if you have a favorite paint brush, stick that in as well. The paint will be provided by Rebuilding Macon. This team will stop in time to travel the two blocks back to the church for the 11:45 service.

Stocking Community Refrigerators
In need of a leader
This team will meet at Vineville to pack lunches for 3 community refrigerators. There are publicly accessible refrigerators that are used to share food with the hungry. Many, but not all, of the folks who benefit from these meals live on the streets. This team will meet at 9:30 in the dining room to pack 100 meals and deliver them to the 3 locations before returning to Vineville for worship at 11:45. All items needed for the meals will be provided at the church. Locations and delivery instructions will be provided. We are looking for a team leader for this project.

This team will make cards to be placed in our backpacks that encourage the children. They will also make cards for shut-is and homebound persons that are not able to participate. All materials will be at the church. This team will assemble at 10:00 in the library. These cards will be placed in the following week’s food bags, so they do not have to be completed prior to the packing of the backpacks. This team will stop in time to go upstairs for worship at 11:45. We are looking for a team leader for this project.

Cooking Team
Leader: Jimmy Asbell
This team will fix lunch for everyone. We will grill burgers and hotdogs, cook baked beans, make tea, make slaw, and bake cookies. The CLC will already be set up for lunch. We will get everything ready prior to the worship time so that we all can attend the service.
We hope that people at each location will take and share pictures with us. They can be sent to Sarah at shazelrig@vinevillemethodist.org. In addition, we will have a couple of roving photographers and videographers to help document the day. If this sounds like you, reach out to Sarah.

Sunday Service is going to be great! When lunch is over, the community will be better for the work that we have done, and the church will be stronger for having done it together. If you haven’t done so already sign up now here:
P.S.- We plan to have t-shirts at work locations for everybody.
Thanks to everyone who brought men’s clothes for the clothes closet at Heritage on Houston.
It started out slow, but you came through again. You were generous as always! Your gifts will make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in south Macon.
