LOOKING FOR HELP
Every week, we stream our worship service to about 200 people in Macon, across Georgia, across the US, and even in other countries. Our A/V ministry makes this possible. Some of those who benefit from this ministry are our homebound members. Many are from other churches that don’t have this capability, so they worship with us online. Some are local folks checking out what we are like before deciding if we will be a good fit for them. Each week online, there are folks who have spent years in this place and some who haven’t ever been through the doors at Vineville. Being able to share our service with them is great. The service we stream is also rebroadcast at 11:00 the following week on Cox channel 7. This rebroadcast serves additional groups of worshippers. The impact of our worship is greatly expanded by our Audio Visual Team.

That is where you can help. Don’t immediately assume that you can’t do this. We need immediate help with sharing the words to hymns, creeds, and other congregational responses. The staff prepares the words; we just need somebody to advance the slides on the computer so that people at home can sing along or recite the creed with us. You can sit in a comfortable padded chair in the balcony and exercise one finger as you press the key to move to the next slide. While none of this is visible in the sanctuary, it is a big help to our online worshipping community. Such a simple act – pressing a key – helps those on the stream and television feel part of the service. They become participants rather than viewers.

Would you be willing to help with this? Email Sarah at shazelrig@vinevillemethodist.org.

This is another way, besides being an usher, acolyte, or choir member, to serve in worship. I’d take my turn, but I’d have to run from the balcony like the kids for children’s sermon!

Peace,
CALLING ALL SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES!

Several years ago, I got the privilege of meeting Samuel Johnson. When you meet him, you immediately see humbleness and strength, joy and suffering, love and caring. You can read more about Samuel below, but here’s what I want you to know. He could have said yes to a million things after surviving a war-torn childhood, receiving multiple degrees from Mercer University, and playing soccer at a high level. He chose the thing that is unheard of - go back and take care of the children living in poverty or on the street. Who does that with everything at their fingertips? Samuel Johnson - that’s who! When I heard him speak, I knew that this was a ministry and a missionary that I needed to support with my prayers and my purse. My wonderful friend and sponsor child Monique at Home of Hope (the children’s home Samuel created out of his calling) wants to be a doctor when she grows up. I believe she will do just that because Samuel and God are on her side. It’s my joy to say that Samuel will be here sharing his story and ministry with Vineville UMC. You will be inspired, moved, and grateful as you hear what he is doing in the world in the name of Christ. Plus, there will be Krispy Kreme doughnuts….
At age 8, Samuel Johnson's father was killed in the Liberian civil war and the family spent 8 years in a refugee camp in Guinea. After his mother's death in Guinea, the UN resettled the children in Atlanta, where they were scholarshipped at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School.

He came to Mercer in 2009 on a soccer scholarship and graduated in 2013 with 4 majors. He was equipped to pursue the American dream but felt called to go back and serve the people in the refugee camp. That's when he founded Home of Hope orphanage, which now houses 17 refugee children, providing a Christian family, safe shelter, food, clothing, and education.

THANK YOU
Thank you to all the men who donated clothes for the United Methodist Mission on Houston Ave. The clothes were delivered on Friday and they filled up what had been an empty clothing ministry. On Saturday morning men in need of clothes were blessed by our sharing. The director of the ministry called to say what a joy it had been to share our clothes with those in need in South Macon. Diane asked me to express her thanks for enabling them to serve their neighbors. Thank you!
