A Community of Giving—Thank you
Many of us will agree that 2020 brought with it unique challenges and uncertainty. But if ever a reminder was needed about how people and communities can persevere and continue supporting each other, 2020 was it.

Every year, we are moved by the generosity of our community. This past Holiday season, with many families further impacted by the pandemic, we were amazed by the kindness of our supporters and donors.

A mother-daughter duo raised funds to provide groceries for a wholesome in-house Christmas dinner for all of our clients that was safely prepared and delivered by dedicated staff members. Canadian Tire at Hillside donated a Christmas tree for our second Emergency Shelter and, community members created and donated Holiday gift bags, each with hand-made, heart-shaped ornaments. Dance Victoria presented the Ukrainian Shumka Dancer's Nutcracker ballet performance online with complimentary access to Transition House clients, client families and staff.

Local groups such as the Pacific Edge Chorus and businesses organized out-of-the-box fundraisers and participated in our gift-card Christmas Hamper Program. The initiative enables women and families who have been in our programs in the past year to receive gift-cards for their Holiday shopping. Our 2020 Hamper Program saw the highest participation since its inception, with close to 150 donors! Individual donors and funding organizations donated to our programs, and many continue to learn, raise awareness and stand against all forms of intimate partner violence and abuse.
As we head into 2021, we take with us a great deal of support that we are immensely grateful for. Your continued support will give us the needed strength to safely and effectively move forward with our work, during the pandemic and long after. From everyone at Transition House, thank you and Happy New Year!
"Please accept my warmest thank you for the Hamper. I can’t tell you how much it made a difference at a time when I was not in much of a Christmas spirit."

Violence is Preventable (VIP) Video Series
Over the last few months, our Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment (PEACE)/Children Who Witness Abuse team and community education coordinator have been working together to create a VIP Video Series.

In the videos, counsellors address questions relating to dating violence and abuse sent in by high-school students and talk about the cycle of abuse. Youth survivors of dating violence also share their stories to raise awareness. Watch here.

The videos aim to provide public education about the impact of witnessing abuse and dating violence for school students and educators. For more information about our VIP Program, contact us at [email protected] or 250-592-2927.

Thank you to Roll.Focus.Production and Lambrick Park Secondary School for their support and contributions.
The VIP Program is funded in part by the Viveka Foundation Fund; Pilot Fund for Gender Equality, a collaboration between Community Foundations of Canada and the Equality Fund, with support from the Government of Canada; Silver Gummy Foundation; BC Society of Transition Houses; Newman’s Own Foundation as well as individual donors.
