The 43rd Ward is in need of election judges for the November 4th General Election.
Election judges help with setting up voting equipment, assist at the polling location throughout the day and tabulate vote totals after the polls close.
If you are interested in becoming an election judge in the 43rd Ward, please email us or call Mary at 773-661-2133.
I recently attended court to continue our fight against vacant storefronts along Clark Street, one of several hearings on this issue residents and I have attended in recent months.
As reported in earlier newsletters, the goal of these cases was to urge landlords to rent the vacant stores. I am very pleased to report that six of the previously long-vacant storefronts have been rented since these cases began, including the following.
2344-46 N. Clark - expansion of L&L preschool (under construction)
2540 N. Clark - expansion of Molly's Cupcakes (under construction)
Additionally, the storefront at 2544 N. Clark (formerly Oodles of Noodles and Chicago Creamery) will be fully renovated and replaced with a more modern storefront, and I look forward a new tenant moving into this location.
At court, the city's attorneys also announced that all the targeted buildings have been brought into compliance with building codes, representing a significant reinvestment in our community.
The success of this effort represents a major accomplishment for our community. Thanks to everyone who has supported these efforts and joined in advocating at these court cases!
Dayton Street Resurfaced
I'm happy to report that the resurfacing of Dayton Street from Wrightwood Avenue to Schubert Avenue was completed last week!
Please note, no approvals or final plans have been granted for this project. This is the first of several meetings that will be held as part of an open and transparent approval process. Click here for further information.
On August 8, 2014, the National Shrine of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini in Chicago welcomed a very special guest from the Vatican. Monsignor Giacomo Pappalardo, who works closely with Pope Francis, had heard so much about the Shrine he wanted to visit while he was in Chicago!
Congrats to the Shrine on hosting such a special visitor!
