Vaccinations: Online Pre-Screening and Registration Open for 1B

With the County moving into vaccinating group 1B today, I heard from many of you who were unable to reach the health department because the vaccine hotline was down from heavy call volume. The call line is back up and running for those in the 1B category, including adults 75 and older. If you qualify, you can call the Health Department’s vaccine hotline at 703-324-7404 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to register for an appointment.

In addition, the pre-screening form and vaccine appointment questionnaire are also up on the County website to schedule a vaccination. You can access them here. Once you complete the screening and questionnaire, the health department will contact you to schedule your vaccination if you are eligible.

As Chairman of the Older Adults committee, I am committed to making sure our older adults receive the vaccine as quickly as possible because they are the most affected and at-risk demographic in our community. While I was glad that we could move into vaccinating the 1B group, this morning’s system failure is unacceptable for our residents. Our health department staff has been working tirelessly to quickly administer as many vaccines as we receive without wasting a single dose. We cannot have anything holding up their efforts.

My top priority has been and will continue to be our COVID response including testing and the vaccination process to make sure it’s working as efficiently as possible. The full Board will be discussing this issue at 9:30a.m. tomorrow. You can view the meeting here.

In addition to expediting the vaccination process, I am committed to making sure you have the most up to date information as soon as I receive it. I will be providing an update later this week with any relevant information related to the vaccine.

In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the County’s Vaccine page for more information.
