County Executive Marc Elrich this week relates some good news in the battle against COVID-19: the recently approved vaccines for children 6 months to 5 years old will quickly be available in limited quantities in Montgomery County. He also talks about the report that finds the Washington-Baltimore Region is second in the nation for attracting talented life sciences workers. He reminds eligible renters that the deadline for applying for rental relief assistance is Thursday, June 30. The County Executive encourages residents to join him in Downtown Silver Spring on Sunday for the ‘Pride in the Plaza’ special event. And he offers thoughts on former Board of Education member Reggie Felton, who passed away recently. Read more.

County Offer COVID-19 Vaccines to Children Ages 6 Months to 5 Years, But Initial Supplies Will Be Limited
|
|
Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 6 months to 5 years, Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has started vaccinating this age group as vaccines are available. However, initial supplies are limited. Read more.

Rental Assistance for County Residents

Eligible Montgomery County renters can soon apply for additional COVID-19 rent relief through the fourth phase of the County’s Rent Relief program, which provides financial assistance for tenants that have experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Read more.

Free At-home COVID-19 PCR Test Kits Available at Multiple Locations, But Which COVID-19 Test is Right for You?

Montgomery County residents have several ways to get tested
for COVID-19.
In-person PCR testing continues at multiple sites throughout the community. A schedule of testing locations can be found at the County’s website.

SHA Update | Resurfacing of University Boulevard West
|
|
MD193 (University Boulevard West) from MD185 (Connecticut Avenue) to MD586 (Veirs Mill Road) is being resurfaced. The work is part of a “area-wide” resurfacing project.
The work includes:
- Lane narrowing from 11 to 10 feet (traffic calming)
- Edgeline widening (traffic calming)
- Continental crosswalk markings (pedestrian safety upgrades)
- The potential for multimodal improvements in the future. (currently under engineering evaluation)

Racial Equity and Social Justice Virtual Community Forum Will Be Held on Sunday, June 26
|
|
The Montgomery County Racial Equity and Social Justice Advisory Committee (RESJAC) will host a virtual community forum from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, The forum, which will have opening remarks from County Executive Marc Elrich and County Councilmember Nancy Navarro, aims to bring together the community and County leaders to learn more about topics including food insecurity, health justice, housing and reparations. County Launches First-Ever
LGBTQ+ Community Survey for ‘Pride Month’
|
|
Montgomery County is continuing its celebration of June as “Pride Month” with the release of its first-ever survey of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ+) residents. The survey will collect anonymous information about health and wellness, access to resources and services, experiences of discrimination and other aspects of residents’ life in the community. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, July 15. Read more.

Pride Month Events Continue with Pride in the Plaza Events
|
|
Montgomery County’s celebration of June as Pride Month continues with special events of varying types. The events will include “Pride on the Field” in White Oak on Friday, June 24, and Pride in the Plaza activities on Sunday, June 26, in Silver Spring. Read more.

Kensington on Saturday, July 2,
and in Germantown on Monday, July 4
|

Montgomery County will host two Independence Day fireworks displays and family gatherings this year, one in Kensington on Saturday, July 2, and the other on Monday, July 4, in Germantown. Read more.

Registration is now open for Montgomery County Public Schools middle school students interested in attending the fourth year of the unique and innovative “Montgomery Can Code Camp” this summer. The free virtual program is a public-private partnership formed by Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation with Apple. 2022 Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival Poster Contest
Winner is K.S. Brenowitz of Silver Spring
The sixth annual Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival poster will be based on the design submitted by K.S. Brenowitz, a Silver Spring resident and graphic artist. The contest was open to all residents of Montgomery County. Following their selection, Brenowitz worked with Wheaton Art Parade designer Josue Martinez of Corinto Gallery to apply the original design to the poster and for use on other promotional materials, including the T-shirt, for the event that will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, in Downtown Wheaton. League of Women Voters Primary Election Voters' Guide 2022 is Available!
|
|
|
|
The League of Women Voters of Mo Co’s Voters’ Guide has candidate responses to questions asked by the non-partisan League. Use it to assist you in your decision-making process as you prepare to vote your mail-in ballot (if you applied for one), or at Early Voting Centers from July 7 to 14, or on Primary Election Day, July 19.
Four ways to get the Voters’ Guide:
1. Online at VOTE411.org – enter your address to see the candidates on your ballot and compare the their responses to our questions in English and Spanish.
2. On paper - distributed to Montgomery County facilities such as libraries, senior and community centers the week of June 13. This English version is shorter, due to space limitations.
3. On our website, lwvmocomd.org - printable Voters' Guide in English and Spanish in PDF format.
4. In El Tiempo Latino newspapers – Spanish version as an insert on June 17.
