Holiday Shipping Update

Please plan accordingly as there will be limited shipping of state-supplied vaccines in November and December.

  • No shipments will be sent from November 26-29, 2024.
  • There are no vaccine shipments in the last two weeks of December. Please place your vaccine order by December 13,2024 to receive the vaccines before the holiday shipment shut-downs. Orders placed after December 13, 2024, will not be expected to arrive until January 2025.
  • Depending on volume of orders placed after December 13, 2024 shipments may not be received until the second week of January 2025. Plan ahead to ensure your site has enough vaccine in inventory.
  • Regular delivery will resume on January 3, 2025.

Please be aware that the "recommended doses" value is only a recommendation. Sites should always place vaccine order requests based on upcoming patient visits and should not solely rely on the "recommended doses" calculation to ensure you have enough vaccine supply. Place order requests for the number of doses that your site requires.

Upcoming Changes to Td Vaccine

As of January 1st, 2025, Td vaccine will shift from being permitted to be administered to all patients in a universal capacity (regardless of age and/or insurance status) to only being permitted to be administered to pediatric patients (aged 18 or younger) or uninsured/underinsured adult patients (19 and older) seen at public provider sites (LBOH, CHC, jails, etc). This change in Td availability is due to UMass Biologics ceasing production of their TdVaxTM product, which had previously allowed for universal Td access throughout the State.

Once the transition occurs, Tenivac (Sanofi), will be the only state-supplied Td vaccine available for order in the MIIS. Tdap vaccines will continue to be available without supply constraints at this time. Private providers currently enrolled as adult-only sites to receive and administer Td vaccine to adult patients, will need to develop a plan for transitioning to privately purchased Tdap and/or in rare cases Td to continue to ensure Td/Tdap availability for their patient population. Additional communications will be sent to provider sites as we get closer to the Td availability transition date.

Respiratory Vaccine Ordering Update

The Beyfortus 50mg (NDC: 49281-0575-15) product's maximum order size in the MIIS has been increased from 20 doses to 40 doses for non-birthing hospital provider sites. A portion of all Beyfortus 50mg allocation cycles will be prioritized for birthing hospitals. As a reminder the Beyfortus 100mg (NDC: 49281-0574-15) product's maximum order size in the MIIS was previously increased from 50 doses to 100 doses for provider sites.

Sites should only be ordering between a 2-4 week supply of the Beyfortus in any given order. If your site requires more than the maximum order amount of Beyfortus 100mg or 50mg over a 2-4 week timeframe, please call the Vaccine Management Unit at 617-983-6828 and ask if a one time increase is possible (dependent on remaining allocation available). Due to ongoing allocation constraints, nirsevimab orders may experience longer turnaround times for approval and shipment.

Flucelvax (NDC: 70461-0654-03) and Fluzone MDV (NDC: 49281-0641-15) are no longer available to order during the 2024-2025 Respiratory Season. Please shift your ordering patterns to one of the formulations listed below, if additional doses are needed this Respiratory Season. Additionally, FluMist (NDC: 66019-0311-10) is expiring in mid-December. Please communicate to staff the importance of administering vaccine before it expires to minimize waste.

Refer to the table below for which state-supplied respiratory vaccines are currently orderable in the MIIS.

State-supplied respiratory vaccines can be administered universally to pediatric patients (18 years or younger). Public provider sites may additionally administer state-supplied respiratory vaccines to uninsured and underinsured adult patients (19+ years).

2025 Re-Enrollment Reminder

Annual re-enrollment for all provider sites will begin in mid-January 2025. The exact start and end date of the re-enrollment season will be sent in upcoming communications. In preparation for the re-enrollment season, please block off time in January to review/complete the 2025 versions of the enrollment documents (ie. Guidelines for Compliance, SOPs, Availability Tables, etc.). The 2025 versions of these documents will be posted on the Vaccine Management Website in early January 2025.

Friendly Reminders
  • Always include PIN/Site Number, name and phone number when contacting the Vaccine Management Unit.
  • Do not move vaccines out of pharma-grade storage units unless the power company informs you of an outage lasting longer than 3 hours.
  • When submitting Merck packing slips (ProQuad/Varivax), ensure the shipped quantity is equal to the order quantity for both the vaccine product and the associated diluent. All sites must initial and date every packing slip received.
  • All sites must regularly check the new Message Center located in the MIIS, so they don't miss any important communications from the Immunization Division.
