Members might be concerned about co-administering routine vaccinations along with COVID vaccines, especially in anticipation of a busy flu vaccination time this fall. The CDC has stated that COVID-19 vaccines can be administered without regard to timing of other vaccines, including simultaneous administration of COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines on the same day.
They further recommend administering each injection in a different injection site if multiple vaccines are administered at a single visit. Best practices include:
- Labeling each syringe with the name and dosage of the vaccine, lot number, etc.
- Separate injection sites by 1” or more, if possible.
- Administer the COVID-19 vaccines and vaccines that may be more likely to cause a local reaction in different limbs, if possible.
