FAFP Continues Vaccine Rule Challenge

Last week in Lake Mary, the FAFP maintained its strong opposition to the Florida Department of Health's (DoH) continued efforts to remove the four vaccines mandated by administrative rule for school-aged children (Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), varicella, and pneumococcal conjugate). Both FAFP and AAFP Presidents, Dr. Danielle Carter and Dr. Sarah Nosal, testified at the October 8 hearing, along with FAFP's attorney opposing the vaccine removal, in addition to representatives from AAP and ACP, dozens of other physicians, attorneys, and members of the public. The FAFP will formally challenge the proposed rule by petition and do everything possible to ensure the DoH meets its statutory mandate to "prevent the spread of communicable diseases by supervising and securing the vaccination of all children in Florida against vaccine-preventable diseases." More information will be provided as it becomes available.
