ACIP June Meeting
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recently held a meeting on June 21-23. Meeting topics included:

  • Pneumococcal 20-valent conjugate (PCV20) – Either PCV15 or PCV20 is recommended for all children aged 2-23 months according to currently recommended PCV dosing and schedules.
  • Influenza vaccine for the 2023–2024 season –There are no changes to the licensed ages and no new products. It is no longer necessary for people with egg allergies to receive an influenza vaccine in a medical setting. Any influenza vaccine appropriate for the recipient’s age and health status can be used regardless of whether it is egg-based.
  • RSV (Adult) – Adults 60 years of age and older may receive a single dose of RSV vaccine, using shared clinical decision-making with their healthcare provider.

Next Steps

If the CDC accepts these recommendations, they will be published in the MMWR within 90 days. This typically signals the insurance companies to begin paying for the newly recommended vaccines. We recommend reaching out to your major payers to make sure adequate payment is in place before incorporating a new vaccine into your schedule.

Regarding the commercialization of the COVID vaccines anticipated to happen this fall, we are keeping our eye on information coming out from CDC and the vaccine manufacturers. We'll keep you updated as we learn more details.

Flu Season Returns

2022-2023 Season Returns: If you have unused flu vaccines from the current flu season, Sanofi has published a guide to help assist you in requesting credit for returned doses. Expired influenza vaccine returns are accepted beginning after May 1, 2023, and must be returned by July 31, 2023.
