Safety Topic: Fall Prevention
20% of workplace injuries come from slips, trips & falls
Slip & Fall Common Factors:

  • Substandard walking surfaces
  • Surface contaminants
  • Footwear
  • A person's walking style

Please remember to wear your YakTrax, which will help reduce the risk of falls and injuries in our current weather conditions. Check out the short clip below to see how to properly position and remove your YakTrax.
Slips and falls are not a primary cause of fatal occupational injuries - but they represent the primary cause of lost days from work. So please keep those Good Catch/Near Miss Submissions coming!

January Good Catch Winner of the Month
Congrats, Matt Crossman!
Matt was in the Mendon Pit running the 938M unit number 3784. It was close to the end of his shift when the last load of salt showed up to be dumped in the salt shed.

As he was pushing the load of salt up, he noticed a crack by the heal plate on the bottom of his bucket. He stopped what he was doing to check it out. Upon closer inspection, he noticed the crack went all the way across the bottom, where the feet and pins lock the bucket to the machine. The whole plate on the back of the bucket was breaking off.

The machine was tagged out and a request was submitted in B2W to schedule repair for the next morning.

Thank you Matt, great job!
