Greetings!
Valentine's Day is February 14th, and below are some wonderful reading selections for you. But it's Wednesday, February 15th I want to focus on because that's when we're holding our "Love Your Library/Snapshot Day. " And we'd love to see you there.
Snapshot Day is a fun way to create a casual, fun, photographic record of the programs and people at our library's branches. This year's Snapshot Day features an Art Lecture celebrating Black History Month, a Mindful Movement Yoga Class, and Black History Trivia in the Teen Zone, all at the Main Branch. In the afternoon at the 401 Harrison Street branch, youngsters will enjoy After School @ The Learning Center, which provides quiet space for homework help, and then an hour of video games, crafts, and board games. And at the Grand Street Branch in the Multi-Service Center, we'll hold Bilingual Story Time and Crafts.
So visit your favorite branch. Or, better yet, explore all there is to do at a branch you've never visited. Snapshot Day starts at 10 am, and continues until 8 at the Main Branch, until 6 at Grand Street, and from 2:30 to 5 at the Learning Center. I hope you'll stop by.
Grab & Go is going, going, gone. When the pandemic hit, we implemented "Grab & Go" so that you could come to the library and literally grab your reserved material and go, since we'd already checked them out to you. Starting on February 14, we ask that you please pick up your reserved items at the Circulation Desk. Of course, you can always use the 24/7 Self-Service Lockers at 500 Park Avenue and 124 Grand Street.
One final note: I am grateful to the Library Foundation for all their contributions to the renovation of the third floor, and equally thankful to the Friends of the Library for all their good works, especially their continued support of our Museum Pass program. So I am thrilled to announce that these two marvelous support organizations have joined to create The Hoboken Public Library Friends & Foundation. On January 26, they officially launched their new organization at an event in the library; you can read about the celebration -- and watch the announcement video -- here.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, here are some enjoyable events for adults and children, and several delightful reading suggestions.
Regards,
Jennie Pu
Library Director

Lessons in Chemistry
by Bonnie Garmus

"Set in 1960s California, this blockbuster debut is the hilarious, idiosyncratic and uplifting story of a female scientist whose career is constantly derailed by the idea that a woman's place is in the home, only to find herself starring as the host of America's most beloved TV cooking show. Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it's the 1960s and despite the fact that she is a scientist, her peers are very unscientific when it comes to equality...."

Introducing the Hoboken Public Library
Friends & Foundation
|
|
For decades the Hoboken Library Foundation and the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library worked side-by-side to support many of the extra events and services the library offers. On January 26, in a ceremony held at the library, the two organizations formally announced their joining as The Hoboken Public Library Friends & Foundation.
The organization's mission:
To advocate for strong public funding of the Library, to create heightened public awareness of the Library, and to raise private funds for Library programs, capital needs, and other emerging needs.
In the picture above, taken at the ceremony, the directors and officers of the new organization are shown flanked by Library Board of Trustees President Jerome Abernathy (left) and Library Director Jennie Pu (right). For more information on the Friends & Foundation, please click here.
