Greetings from C. Darby Ulery, founder of "Let's Go! Fairhope" events-related newsletter, calendar and website resource for Fairhope, Alabama.
One early-February evening several years ago, my heart felt shattered. I entered the Fairhope CVS store to shop for a baby shower card, and an explosion of glistening pink and red shapes seemed to swell, spin, and threaten to undermine my sanity.
At the sales counter, I tried to explain why I needed help finding a card even though I knew they were "over there." Thankfully, the clerk caught on immediately, and carefully led me to the small display of storks, carriages and pacifiers, saying "Whatever you do, don't look up, and don't look the other way either." I was very grateful to her.
I feel lucky to be in a positive relationship today, but fully aware not everyone feels joy for all events that are designed to supposedly make us happy. It can also have the opposite effect.
