I am thinking this week of the keepers of my soul. Sometimes, it's a person, sometimes a place, sometimes a moment in time. Gossamer threads of gifts and grace. A small kindness, a funny comment, an old story shared and it rights me. I can feel the flow again, thoughts weighing me down, pulling me off balance shift to be replaced with a lightness. Sometimes, it is a memory, a perfect moment with someone I love, a moment when we were at peace and filled with the awe of life. A piece of my soul remains forever there, not frozen but alive. A place I return to again and again when I am parched, and it renews me. Parts of me live in the hearts of family and friends, and they in me. They remind me of who I am when I have forgotten myself. There are places in the mountains and cities where I feel fully alive, fully present. Parts of my soul remain there. They call me back and I find strength. Sometimes, it is the stranger, one who stands in integrity and compassion when those around them darken with a darkening tide.

We are about to put the house up for sale, but part of my soul will remain here among the hibiscus and lizards, hearing the sound of women's voices and laughter at potlucks and cookies exchanges. Forever a refuge in times of loneliness.

Quantum physics talks about how time is an illusion and about multidimensional universes. I don't know. I only know what is true for me and I feel parts of myself living in many times and places. My soul kept safe. I know there is an energy between one another when we live in each other's hearts and that our souls smile whenever we meet. In tough times, I need those keepers of my soul, sometimes I need the flame another to ignite my own.

If you having a tough week, my hope is that the keepers of your soul find you.

Kim

Women, We Should Know

Lise Meitner

Meitner was part of the team that discovered and explained nuclear fission and foresaw its explosive potential. She refused to work on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, declaring, “I will have nothing to do with a bomb!” Her epitaph on her gravestone, written by her nephew Otto Frisch, reads, “Lise Meitner: a physicist who never lost her humanity.”

First up we have the play PERFECT ARRANGEMENT which is set in 1950 but with our political situation has become more relevant than ever.

“It’s 1950, and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. There’s just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are secretly gay, and have married each other’s partners as a carefully constructed cover.

This twisty tale is inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, madcap classic sitcom-style laughs give way to provocative drama as two “All-American” couples are forced to stare down the closet door.”

It runs February 6-16. Tickets are $40

For two days only, Feb 11-12 we are doing a special staged reading of the groundbreaking lesbian play (and later film) THE CHILDREN'S HOUR by Lillian Hellman. Tickets are $10

And later--April 4-12 we are presenting the lesbian themed play THE CAKE which is a touching and topical dramatic comedy about a vivacious, conservative North Carolina baker named Della. She faces a crisis of conscience when Jen--whom she loves like a daughter--asks her to bake a cake for Jen's lesbian wedding. Tickets are $40
