VALLEJO, CA – In a special City Council meeting held this Tuesday evening, Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution reinstating a mask mandate in Vallejo. Regardless of vaccination status, residents, workers, and visitors must wear masks (face coverings) while indoors or in enclosed public spaces in the City of Vallejo.
COVID-19 cases have significantly increased in Solano County in the past few months. In particular, the Delta variant, which is more contagious than previous strains, and is now the dominant strain in Solano County.
In early August of 2021, health officers in the Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma, and the City of Berkeley announced a mask mandate requiring every resident to wear a face mask indoors in public settings, regardless of vaccination status. The City of Benicia has recently followed suit, requiring masks indoors. The mandates are intended to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 amid the Delta variant surge. The City of Vallejo's resolution is consistent with local neighboring counties and cross-references the exemptions contained by the CDPH.
The mask mandate is effective immediately and will remain in place for six (6) weeks, at which time City Council will reassess the Covid-19 cases in the City of Vallejo and Solano County, determining if a mandate extension is required.
