VALLEJO PD INVESTIGATES JANUARY 1, 2022 FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION & VEHICLE FIRE LEAVING TWO DECEASED

VALLEJO - On January 1, 2022 at approximately 9:22 p.m., Vallejo Police Officers responded to reports of a vehicle fire with possible occupants inside in the 1000 block of Shasta Street.

Officers arrived within one minute and discovered a vehicle fully engulfed in flames with at least two occupants inside. Vallejo Fire personnel arrived on scene shortly after to extinguish the vehicle fire and confirmed that two individuals were inside. Unfortunately, both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene by Vallejo Fire medical personnel.

Prior to the collision, an officer observed the same vehicle, identified as a blue 2005 Infiniti G35, driving recklessly and spinning donuts in the area of Shasta Street and Springs Road. Upon seeing the officer, the vehicle turned off its headlights and fled northbound on Shasta at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety, the officer discontinued any attempt to conduct a traffic stop and did not pursue the vehicle.

Preliminary details involving the collision indicate that the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on Shasta Street at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with two unoccupied parked vehicles and a large tree. The vehicle subsequently caught fire and became engulfed in flames.

The deceased include one adult male and one juvenile. The age, residence and identity of the deceased are being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin by the Solano County Coroner’s Office.

The Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division responded to take over the investigation.

This is the City of Vallejo’s 1st fatal traffic collision resulting in two deaths in 2022.
