VALLEJO PD INVESTIGATES MARCH 18, 2022 HOMICIDE

VALLEJO, CA — On March 18, 2022 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Vallejo Police Officers responded to the report of a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Pepper Drive.


Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old La Prell Briggs of Vallejo.


The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) Detective Division responded to take over the investigation. The motive and circumstances involving this shooting are under investigation at this time.

This is the City of Vallejo’s 8th homicide of 2022.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF OF POLICE

“We must never become desensitized to the devastation that gun violence causes in Vallejo,” Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. Too many families are hurting from this generational trauma and as a City, we must respond actively and efficiently.” 


"In order to achieve this, we must properly resource and equip our police officers and community with the tools and facilities needed to reduce and respond to gun violence. This means investing into creative solutions like auditory gunshot detection systems and centering our focus on prevention, intervention and enforcement," Chief Williams continued.  


"We cannot and will not allow the cries of our community go unheard."
