VALLEJO - On September 22, 2020 at approximately 2:00pm, Operation PEACE Officers responded to the 600 block of Florida Street to serve an outstanding warrant for the arrest of 36-year-old suspect and Vallejo resident Humberto Bonifacio-Denova.
Denova had a felony warrant for his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. Officers also obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he refused to come out, leading to a nearly three-hour stand-off.
At approximately 5:00pm, the Vallejo Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was activated which included personnel from VPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation teams. Members of ESU further attempted to establish communication with the suspect in a variety of ways, with no success.
Subsequently, SWAT Officers formulated a tactical plan utilizing specialized equipment and deployed tear-gas into the suspect’s residence. The suspect then came out of his apartment and peacefully surrendered to SWAT officers. The suspect was booked and transported to Solano County Jail.
The Vallejo Police Department would like to thank our allied agencies and members of the community who supported and assisted officers at the scene of the incident. Their contribution and involvement helped officers bring this matter to a safe resolution.
