VALLEJO - The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) is pleased to announce that Jason Ta will be joining the City of Vallejo as our department’s newest Deputy Chief this fall. Deputy Chief Ta will be coming to us from the San Jose Police Department where he has over 25 years of experience in crime reduction, police reform and community policing.
“I am proud and excited to be part of the Vallejo Police Department family, and honored to serve the community of Vallejo,” Deputy Chief Jason Ta stated. “In our journey of restoration, we must remember that little successes add up to big accomplishments - we start small, but think big!”.
Deputy Chief Ta has worked as a collaborative member of the San Jose Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force to reduce crime through a combination of prevention, intervention, reintegration, and enforcement. He has also served as the San Jose Police Department’s lead on a robust police reform work plan that focused on “Reimagining Community Safety”.
While assigned to the Bureau of Investigations, Deputy Chief Ta was unit commander for the Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit (SAIU), where he conceived and drafted a grant submission that resulted in an award to San Jose PD that gained first-time funding for hiring a victim advocate for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
In his time as a Police Sergeant, Deputy Chief Ta was selected as one of the first sergeants to spearhead San Jose PD’s pilot program for the department’s Performance Analysis Detail (PAD). PAD played a pivotal role in uncovering and correcting policy vulnerabilities and redundancies.
“Deputy Chief Ta is a humble servant leader who brings a breadth of experience that will assist us with implementing collaborative reforms and building strong community partnerships,” Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “He is a problem solver who creates environments that engage the hearts and minds of all employees, community stakeholders and our youth. I am excited to have him on our team.”
In addition to the experience listed above, along with other assignments, accomplishments, and accolades, Deputy Chief Ta holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice and a Master of Business Administration Degree in Strategic Leadership. Ta is also a 2017 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy.
Deputy Chief Ta will be sworn in to begin serving the City of Vallejo on October 4, 2021.
