VALLEJO PD TO WELCOME NEW DEPUTY CHIEF MICHAEL KIHMM ON NOVEMBER 30TH
VALLEJO - The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) is excited to welcome Deputy Chief Michael Kihmm to the Vallejo Police Department, who will be sworn in on November 30, 2020.
 
Deputy Chief Kihmm will be joining us from the San Jose Police Department with 29 years of continuous law enforcement experience. Kihmm began his career in 1991 as a full-time police officer with the Milpitas Police Department and lateraled to the San Jose Police Department in 1994. He promoted through the ranks to Captain and has a broad range of experience where he has worked and led numerous units (i.e., Patrol, Internal Affairs, Homicide, Traffic/Motor Unit, Sexual Assaults, and the Chief’s Adjutant, just to name a few).
 
Over the years, Deputy Chief Kihmm has been involved with numerous special projects most recently leading the implementation of the California-DOJ Racial Identity Profiling Act (AB953) and worked in partnership with the University of El Paso, Texas – Center for Law and Human Behavior (UTEP) to conduct an analysis of the Department's limited detention data on traffic and pedestrian stops.
 
Deputy Chief Kihmm holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 262), Police Executive Research Forum-Senior Management Institute for Police (Session 69) at Boston University, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Leadership Academy (formerly West Point Leadership Class).
 
Deputy Chief Kihmm enjoys working out and spending time with his wife and three children, two who are in college and one in high school.

The additional Deputy Chief position will be filled temporarily in an interim capacity and is expected to begin in December 2020.
