Thank you to Spirit Halloween for an amazing Spirit of Children campaign this past year. Spirit Halloween employees and the communities they serve came together for a record-breaking year, raising an incredible $158,400 for Valley Children's Child Life Services. Child Life Services help children understand and cope with hospitalization. This year's successful campaign brought Spirit Halloween's total funds raised for Valley Children's over the last 15 years to more than $956,000 for Valley Children’s Hospital.

We are so appreciative of the continued support and dedication by Spirit Halloween's corporate and local leadership, its employees, and its many customers who make a positive difference in the lives of the patients we serve.

Kids Day is coming! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 7 as we celebrate this Central Valley tradition's 36th anniversary.

This much beloved community event will take place both in-person and virtually this year with a blend of Kids Day's wonderful traditions and the innovations of the last three years. Our volunteers will be out in their orange aprons the morning of March 7, ready to safely take your donations. In lieu of newspapers, volunteers will sell a special edition Kids Day postcard for a suggested $1 donation. These postcards will give the community access to patient stories illustrating the vital pediatric medical care that Valley Children's Hospital provides.

You can also help support this year's event by making a donation today! Now through March 7, you can visit valleychildrens.org/kidsday and click the “Donate” button to make a donation of any amount, or text GEORGE to 20222 for an automatic $10 donation. We appreciate your generous support to help make Kids Day a huge success! For more information, please call 559-353-7100 or visit valleychildrens.org/kidsday.

Born at just 24.5 weeks gestation, Connor weighed 1 pound, 13 ounces and was in need of specialized care to survive. He had developed bleeding in the brain as a result of extreme prematurity and received care at Valley Children’s, where leading specialists and his fighting spirit saved his life.

"There was a moment when Connor was first born that we weren't sure if he was going to make it because he was so premature," said Susan, Connor’s grandma. "His outcome was uncertain, but the NICU team did an outstanding job caring for Connor.”

Connor was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, meaning that he would have difficulty with movement and maintaining balance due to muscle weakness. He has had several surgeries, including a shunt placement and replacement, as well as spinal surgery to improve his ability to walk.

Today, Connor is 11 years old and thriving! He is able to walk with the use of a walker and can fly down the street on his adaptive tricycle. Connor enjoys playing with his friends at school, gaming at home and participating in kayaking and baseball through Valley Children’s Adaptive Sports Program.

"Connor had excellent care from the time he was admitted to the NICU to today,” added Susan. “We are grateful for the doctors and care teams at Valley Children’s who have been wonderful to Connor and our family.”
