NGC Construction of Visalia, CA, along with their incredible presenting sponsors D.R. Horton, True Greenscapes, Concrete Value Corp (CVC), and Calibuilt, recently united to host a remarkable dinner and golf tournament fundraiser, raising an astonishing $257,075 in support of Valley Children's Hospital!

For the past four years, this generous group has selected a different charity to help, and this year, they chose Valley Children's in honor of a employee's daughter who received life-saving cancer treatment at the hospital.

The funds raised will be directed toward the Valley Children's Oncology Department and the Fresno Truck Center Cancer Survivorship Program, providing vital support for oncology patients and young cancer survivors as they transition into healthy, thriving lives beyond treatment. We had such a wonderful time working with our new community partners at NGC Construction. We’re so grateful to our new friends at NGC Construction and to everyone who contributed to making this event an incredible success—thank you for your compassion and dedication!

Valley Children’s Hospital is proud to announce that it has been ranked as one of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for the ninth consecutive year in its 2024-2025 listing. This accomplishment would not be possible without champions like you. Your support allows for opportunities, research and ongoing training for our staff, as well as providing essential programs and services that improve the patient experience, alleviating burdens on our doctors and nurses so that they can focus on providing the best care to our patients.

This prestigious ranking recognizes Valley Children’s excellence in three pediatric specialties:

Pediatric Orthopedics

Pediatric Pulmonology & Lung Surgery

Pediatric Urology

“We are honored to be recognized once again by U.S. News & World Report,” said Valley Children’s Healthcare President and CEO Todd Suntrapak. “This accolade is a testament to the unwavering commitment and expertise of our entire team. Their dedication to delivering exceptional care and achieving positive outcomes for our patients and their families is truly inspiring.”

“Our robust quality metrics and the positive feedback from our patients and their families affirm that we are exceeding the highest standards in pediatric care and clinical outcomes,” said Valley Children’s Vice President of Quality, Patient Safety and Research and Clinical Value Raed Khoury. “Our team continues to ensure that every child receives the exceptional, effective and patient-centered experience they deserve from Valley Children’s.”

Supporters like you are a tremendous part of that patient-centered experience, and on behalf of everyone at Valley Children's, thank you for all you do to help us bring our best to children throughout the Central Valley.

Supporting Valley Children’s Hospital is a meaningful way to make a difference—and it can come with financial benefits, especially for those over 70½. By donating from your IRA, you can reduce your tax burden while giving vital support to our community.

An Opportunity for Supporters Aged 70½ and Older

If you’re 70½ or older, you have a unique opportunity to contribute up to $105,000 from your IRA directly to Valley Children’s Hospital. These contributions can be made without incurring income taxes. Often referred to as an IRA charitable rollover or qualified charitable distribution (QCD), this option allows your gift to have a real impact without affecting your taxable income.

How This Gift Helps You and the Hospital

  • Immediate Impact: Your support begins making a difference as soon as you give, providing crucial resources to help children and families today.
  • Meet Distribution Requirements: If you have required minimum distributions, a QCD can count toward fulfilling that obligation.
  • No Additional Taxable Income: The transfer is excluded from your taxable income, which can benefit even those who don’t itemize deductions.
  • Lower Income and Taxable Benefits: Since this gift doesn’t count toward your annual income, it could help reduce Medicare premiums and lower the portion of Social Security subject to tax.

Your contribution not only supports essential care at Valley Children’s Hospital but also offers a strategic way to manage your tax liability. Consider this approach to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children while achieving financial benefits.

The Valley Children's Roots of Resilience Gardening Club was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation.

Clinical Research Coordinator Matthew Mayes championed the garden as part of the treatment plan for pediatric cancer patients. The program allows patients to participate in gardening as well as to enjoy the cancer-fighting benefits of several kinds of plants that grow well in the Central Valley. The program also collaborates with expert gardeners, nutritionists, social workers and other mental health professionals all to place an emphasis on education.

Matthew's inspiration for the garden project was a flower that has been called a miracle in the prevention of childhood leukemia and cancer treatment. “The anti-leukemic properties of Madagascar periwinkle were discovered nearly 80 years ago," shared Matthew. “This flower produces two cancer-fighting chemicals that have effectively transformed the treatment landscape for children living with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, increasing the chance of survival from 10% to 95%." Madagascar periwinkle is easy to grow, takes little to maintain and is highly adaptable to various growing conditions. The flower – along with tomatoes, blueberries, carrots and more – are growing right here at Valley Children's.

We are so grateful for the generous advocacy of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, whose mission is to improve health outcomes in the communities they serve by supporting nutrition information, nutrition access, and wellness programs.

A hospital stay is never easy for a child or their family—especially during the holiday season. Many families find themselves stretched thin, balancing the demands of caring for a sick child with work, school, and responsibilities for kids still at home. At Valley Children’s, we believe that every child deserves to feel the joy and warmth of the holidays, even within hospital walls. That’s why the Spirit of the Holidays program was created: to bring hope, support, and a touch of holiday magic to families during their child’s hospital stay.

The Spirit of the Holidays program provides essential funds, gifts, food, and support for the families who need it most, creating comfort during a difficult time. With the help of our hospital staff, we identify and carefully screen families who would benefit most from this program, offering relief from some of the financial and emotional burdens of the season.

Ways to Help:

  • Sponsor a Family for $300: With your generous gift of $300, you can sponsor a family in need. We’ll handle everything, using your donation to provide a $150 grocery gift card and six $25 Walmart gift cards for essentials.

  • Make a Financial Donation or a Gift Card Donation: Your financial gift, which is tax-deductible, helps us provide meaningful support to families in need. Due to space constraints, we’re unable to accept large in-kind gifts.

Your support will alleviate some of the financial stress, allowing parents to focus on what truly matters—being there for their child. Together, we can make this holiday season brighter for those who need it most. Click here to sponsor or support a family today and give them the gift of hope.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to Spirit Halloween for organizing another fantastic Spirit of Children Halloween party for our patients and their families. Their generous donation of costumes, crafts, accessories and their time brought so much joy to our patients.

We deeply appreciate their ongoing support to our Child Life Program through their in-store campaign. Spirit Halloween's in-store campaign begins at Labor Day with a 10% off coupon, and in addition they donate 10% of the coupon holder's entire purchase to Valley Children's. Since 2008 they have given more than $1 million to Valley Children's Child Life Department. Thank you, Spirit Halloween Stores and employees, for your continued commitment!

Last week, we celebrated our partnership with our Children's Miracle Network Hospitals partner Credit Unions For Kids (CU4Kids) for raising $82,297 for Valley Children's in 2024. Funds raised were through the CU4Kids wine auction held this past March and through sponsorships of this year’s Kids Day. The total amount includes $22,435 from EECU and $14,450 from Pacific Service Credit Union.

Part of the funds raised this year sponsored our Halloween Bash at the hospital. On Halloween Day, our patients were treated to fun activities, games and gifts for the kids and their siblings. EECU CEO Beth Dooley and EECU staff along with Pacific Service Credit Union CEO Jenna Lampson and her staff joined in on the fun with our patients and families. We are incredibly grateful for decades of partnership with Credit Unions for Kids. The Halloween Bash they sponsored brought so much joy and fun to our patients while they are in the hospital.
