Hello Homeowners,
One thing that I’ve heard from a number of homeowners is that The Oaks Grille and Par Lounge menu is overpriced. As a fair-minded, objective person, I wanted to see for myself. I think my background in restaurant management, restaurant creator/owner/operator, makes me a reasonably qualified person to give a fair comparison. FYI, I had many To-Go orders placed by family and friends so that our staff had no idea that the meal was for me.
I ate multiple times at each location: Rachel’s, Marinade on Main, The Barn, D’Carlos, Ramona Café, Pete’s BBQ, Up the Hill Grill, and Kountry Kitchen. I ate items similar to those that are on our menu to provide direct comparisons. Here’s my summary:
Food Quality/Preparation/Presentation/Temperature:
In general, our quality is superior to nearly all competitors; there is only one restaurant that has the same quality of ingredients. I was able to tell that many of our competitors’ appetizers and entrees were premade and simply microwaved. The quality and temperature suffered. An example…“Baked” Brussels Sprouts were served in a cold cast iron pan, the sprouts were unevenly hot on the inside and cold on the outside…a true indication of pre-prepared and microwaved. By contrast, ours are truly cooked per order, fresh, hot, and with depth of flavor. We don’t have trays of prepped entrees sitting in the cooler for days waiting to be “heated.” Our chefs and their teams actually cook.
Across the board, our breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, buffets, and pizzas are steps above what you’ll find in town. Our variety, specials, and rotating menu provide a more complete offering. The quality and timeliness of service are significantly better than the standard or sub-standard service received in other establishments.
Menu Pricing/Value:
Overall, we know that food costs have been rising at a fast pace since 2020. All restaurants have increased their menu prices to reflect this. When comparing top menu items, our prices are the same as in town. Philly Cheesesteaks are equal, Basic Breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee) are the same as the breakfast cafes, Appetizers are sometimes less expensive at The Oaks Grille and Par Lounge. WE WIN on value. We have a better product, better service, all for similar prices…that equals VALUE in my book.
We should be proud of what Ben Peterson, Colleen Doulgeropoulos, Joyce Whelehon, and their teams have done to make our food and beverage operations the best in town!
Thanks again for reading this and for your continual support of the best restaurant and sports bar in town.
Thank you for doing your part in making SDCEA the best it can be.
Thank you, Carl Weise, GM
