Thanks again for taking time to read these weekly updates. I hope that you will find them informative and useful.
There are many things to celebrate within our community right now. Obviously, it is election season for three seats on the SDCEA Board of Directors. Thank you to all of our candidates for wanting to become even more involved in the community.
We had a great turnout for The Oaks Grille and Par Lounge over the St. Patty’s Day Weekend; we appreciate how many of you came out to enjoy some Irish food, drinks, music, and fun with your neighbors. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the Luck of the Irish golf event due to the weather, and we have another themed golf event on Friday, May 2 – Fiesta on the Fairways. Stop by the IEC for the Cowboy Challenge & Horsemanship Show this weekend.
Amy Holsapple and our Recreation Team are preparing for Spring Break “Camp,” and there are some spots still open. Please contact them at 760-789-4146.
Nancy Zadrozny and her Landscape and Open Space Team have been working feverishly to reduce the accumulation of brush and fallen branches throughout the community. In our “defensible space areas,” they have been doing a large amount of work to clean up the areas on the perimeter and on the interior locations from a fuel management perspective. Congratulations on their efforts to help keep us better protected from fire risk.
This leads me to how we can make our community as safe as possible during a wildfire. I have recently met with personnel from regional and local CAL FIRE, SD Sheriffs, and the SD Office of Emergency Services. This information sharing will continue over the next few weeks with the addition of other governmental agencies that will support us before, during, and after a wildfire. My goal is to ensure that we all have a greater understanding of the current strategies that have been put into place since the 2003 and 2007 fires. As I learn more, I will get that information out to you in a clear and succinct manner.
To add another layer of preparedness, there is a FIREWISE community group that has started. FIREWISE is an internal group of homeowners that uses CAL FIRE strategies to teach homeowners how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action to prevent property losses.
There will be a FIREWISE Educational Training on Saturday, April 12 at 8:30 am. FIRST, you must RSVP for this event as there is limited space. There is no charge for this training. Scroll down to find a more detailed article about the event and a link to the RSVP Form. I hope to see you there!
Once again, this is a TEAM approach. WE CAN DO THIS!
Thank you, Carl Weise, GM
