Hello Homeowners,
Every manager has their own methods to achieve the goals in their organization. One of my most-used phrases is something that applies to my personal life, professional life, and our organizational growth. “We only have today to make a positive impact for a better tomorrow.” Using this mindset allows us to focus more on the future that we want to see. While I believe that some historical perspective is necessary, I won’t re-litigate the past, and I will always focus on which actions we can take now to achieve our common goals.
I know that a significant part of my job is to move all aspects of the Estates forward. My first number of weeks here have given me more insight into the operation. I have applied SWOT analysis to what I have seen: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. One item that is both a threat and a weakness is how effectively we communicate with each other. I am correcting one part of that by writing these articles and creating more opportunities for open discussions. The first two Coffees with Carl (CwC) are scheduled for Friday, April 4, at 9 am and Saturday, April 5, at 10 am in the Par Lounge. I am sure there will be plenty of questions and answers. To make this an effective and efficient use of everyone’s time, you will need to write your questions and concerns and send them to me via the Association’s ASK THE GM link here, no later than noon on Wednesday, April 2. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at this event.
Another piece of how we can communicate better is to eliminate personal attacks on social media. Many times, these media become a dumping ground for grievances that do not help resolve our issues. From my standpoint, I encourage free speech. You obviously have the right to express your opinion. Yet, I believe there are better ways to communicate and resolve the issues at SDCEA. Perhaps, not having enough avenues and frequency of communication is to blame. I think you see that I am making changes on that front. Please note that there are posts that involve very private information between the Board and a homeowner; these are legal matters, collection of delinquent assessments, and violations. The Board and management are simply not allowed to discuss this in any public way. We don’t do this, and we won’t. We all need to take an active role to stop making statements that are misleading, false, and/or hateful to community members, volunteers, and staff.
We have a homeowner forum at each open session Board meeting, there is ASK THE GM on the Association’s website, and we can be reached via phone, email, or in person. Now, we have a weekly GM article and Coffee with Carl sessions.
Let’s use these avenues to communicate and work together to resolve our issues and concerns.
Once again, this is a TEAM approach. WE CAN DO THIS!
Thank you, Carl Weise, GM
