Hello Homeowners,
A quick reminder about the Valley News survey that was recently mailed to homeowners. The deadline for completing your survey is Monday, Oct. 6. We want to provide you with the best, most effective, and efficient communication. We want your input!
Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to complete this survey!
As you can see, I like to use these articles to give you insight into our operations and my best practices for running a community like SDCEA. There are many differing opinions on the “Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How” that guide our work. I have consistently preached, harped, or spoke my piece on Reserve funding at 100%. I also understand another metric for funding level, which is more focused on cash flow. It is called Threshold Funding which represents maintaining only enough reserve funds to pay for the reserve projects without pushing the reserve account below zero. This can be a workable scenario. It is not my preferred model as it does not allow for much, if any, ability to deal with the unexpected. Regardless, SDCEA is somewhere in between these two models and probably always will be. Over time, we will find equilibrium.
Why do I bring this up? Our budget process has helped me see SDCEA with a new perspective and appreciation for the community and its homeowners. What I see is that Board Members, Budget Development Committee, other involved homeowners, and the managers are open-minded, educated, willing to learn more about all things SDCEA, and are truly focused on the best community wide outcomes. In the month of October, we will have a presentation of the draft budget for 2026. You will see the efforts of the team that put it together.
FYI, there is a newly announced Wildfire Safety Townhall event, hosted by San Diego County Supervisor, Joel Anderson, Sheriff Kelly Martinez, and SDG&E.
