Welcome to the December edition of our NC DeafBlind Newsletter for families. We invite you to join our mailing list and reach out if you would like more information, community resources or support advocating for your child! The American Council of the Blind (ACB) Scholarship Program

The American Council of the Blind (ACB), in partnership with other organizations and individuals, offers educational scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $7,500 for entering freshmen, undergraduate and graduate students, and those attending technical college.


All interested candidates must register for an ACB account prior to submitting a scholarship application online. Once you have created an account with ACB, please login, and then you can access the scholarship application.


Applications for the 2026 - 2027 school year can be submitted online from Saturday, November 1, 2025, to Saturday, February 14, 2026, 11:59 pm (CST).

Local Events/Support


The NC Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) offers local events, subscribe to their contact list to receive information: Click here to sign up.

From NC - EHDI (Early Hearing Detection and Intervention) Services: Check out our new Parent-to-Parent Support Group Flyer created by parents for parents. We hope you will connect with a group near you. You can download and print the flyer HERE.

Family - 2- Family Communities (F2FC) - F2FC brings families together via distance technology to connect, share information and resources, and offer support to one another in the journey of supporting their family member with deaf-blindness.

NC Department of Health and Human Services - Division of Services for the Blind - SAVVY 2026 - SAVVY programs help students with visual impairments prepare for life after high school, college and careers with a future in NC. The 2026 programs will be held July 5th - July 31st. To apply for the SAVVY program, contact your DSB Transition Counselor or Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. If you need to get connected to a counselor, call 1-866-222-1546. Applications are due to counselors by March 13, 2026.
