Greetings,
Although temperatures may be dropping, there is no slowing down as Clarke shifts into the second half of the semester.
Campus News
Student engagement continues to flourish with the launch of three new student-led organizations: The Pride Makers Sew Club, Hispanic +, and The Queen In You.
In addition, our cultural and community engagement remains invigorating as was clear in the faculty piano recital by Assistant Professor of Music, Keisy Peyerl Xavier, on October 21.
And on Sunday, October 22, Clarke’s Women’s Basketball Team participated in an exhibition game against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City. This was a fantastic chance for our student-athletes to experience play and strategy at the Division I level. We are immensely proud of how they and all the fans carried themselves throughout the day.
From October 16-20, we celebrated National Transfer Student Week with events that highlight transfer students and the professionals who support them on their academic journeys. Clarke continues to be a leader in this arena, earning the 2023 Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll for the third consecutive year.
Strategic Plan Update
Implementation of the Strategic Plan 2023-2026 is well underway. And the work we are doing is already yielding results and enhancing the student experience.
For example, participation in the Ally Network and the Black Male Leadership Society has grown, making a positive impact on our campus culture. In addition, Clarke’s Peer Mentoring Program has its highest level of membership to date, with 17 mentees and 8 mentors. Furthermore, our Life Coaching and Counseling Office has connected with 50 students, and our Academic Advising Team has held over 500 meetings with students. Each of these engagements contributes to the living of our mission and values.
Living our Legacy Spotlight
This section of my bi-weekly update is new and will be a regular feature. This spotlight is another way for Clarke community members to be in-the-know about the wonderful people with whom we work and how they live our legacy. Living our legacy stems from our mission:
Clarke University is a Catholic academic community that believes learning is lifelong and life changing. We inspire intellectual curiosity, cultural engagement, professional preparedness, spiritual exploration, and a commitment to contributing to the common good in a global society.
