We are so humbled by the outpouring of support, and every contribution, whether large or small, has enabled the repair to take place, and our other monthly expenses to continue to be met. Driving it around over the last couple of weeks has shown a great performance and mileage improvement with the new tranny! Thanks to Dave's Auto for being our mechanics for more than two decades...they're the best! The van will soon be taking us to Cortez, Colorado...see the story below.

Message from the President
As we move into fall, and feel the first chilly evenings in Colorado, I am dismayed to see COVID case numbers rise both in our state, and around the country. It is very clear that visiting schools and presenting in front of seniors, isn't going to happen any time soon. We've also received word that the International Sportsmen's Exposition, normally held in January at the Colorado Convention Center, has been canceled. This is our largest public show and is an important fund raiser for us, taking place over the course of four days.
All of us continue to face different struggles and challenges as the year slowly draws to a close. Our members and supporters have demonstrated extraordinary generosity in keeping our facility in good repair, and the birds fed and well-taken care of. On the plus side, we've seen an uptick in our Eagle Scout Court of Honor Programs, and our friends at the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Resource Stewardship Program gave us a wonderful opportunity to creatively partner via a pre-filmed video that will be shared with their dedicated team of volunteer raptor monitors. Their annual meeting will also be via Zoom, and I'll participate too, answering questions...scroll down. We're continuing to find creative ways get our message out, and to connect with each other as sincerely, and safely as possible. Thank you for your faith in our work, and all of your gestures of support, both large and small!

Another Remarkable Photo Shoot |

On October 10th, the temperatures and wind cooperated for a fabulous full day of shooting our raptors. We flew five raptors in the morning, and had another five posed in natural settings in the after lunch session. Once again, the star of the afternoon was our five year-old female bald eagle, whom we placed in a flooded area on the eastern side of a very full pond. As we've often said, we get that she's a sea eagle, but our girl LOVES the water and stayed on the shore, walking around, drinking and jumping around for 30 minutes! No one wanted to move her and taking her out reminded Anne of the "five-minute warning" that she used to give her kids before leaving the pool! Presenting a stern-looking, but actually quite relaxed countenance, our male red-morph screech owl stood out nicely against the gnarled, gray bark of the cottonwood tree. The two shots below are of the male Harris's hawk which Jeff Wang captured, as the bird returned down to the main flying field, perfectly gliding in front of the yellow cottonwood.

On October 18, 2020, we were privileged to participate in Camden Dempsey's Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony in the Applewood neighborhood of western Denver. Camden's project, planting trees in Mongolia, actually took place over two years ago, but this ambitious young man's schedule as a student athlete (and soon-to-be graduate of Lakewood High School's International Baccalaureate Program), lead to a few delays. Keeping everyone safe and distanced was easy in the lovely tent, and the weather cooperated nicely with a crisp, fall afternoon. Congratulations Camden!

We've been working with Colorado Parks & Wildlife to produce an exclusive video streaming raptor experience for the annual meeting of volunteer raptor monitors in November. Normally we provide live presentations for this meeting, but with the pandemic CPW looked for a creative response and we were pleased to be part of this high-tech adaptation to the numerous challenges of 2020. This year we're featuring uncommon or hard-to-find raptors, including our new male gyrfalcon. Thanks to Jeff, Jerry, Tony and Erickson for being so easy to work with! |

Nesting Peregrine Down Under |
We have the perfect cure to those of you who are suffering from "End of Nest Cam Season": take a look Down Under to the start of spring in the Southern Hemisphere! Peregrine falcons are found world-wide, on every continent except Antarctica, and there is a 4K nest cam on a very experienced pair in Melbourne.Three chicks have hatched! This is one of the best raptor cams anywhere on the planet!
