Rich with history, the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association engages and supports many communities throughout the province of BC.
The Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association is made up of former
National Hockey League (NHL) players, former Canucks coaches and staff, plus those who support the game of hockey in BC. Close to 100 members call the BC west coast home, while another 75 live in parts of BC, Canada, the United States and Europe.
Since 1953, the association has raised over $5 million for charities across BC and has awarded $875,000 scholarships to BC youth.
Currently, they award scholarships to BC Hockey, Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association, UBC men's hockey, Simon Fraser men's hockey and the BC Hockey League. In addition, multiple scholarships are presented at the Pat Quinn Classic, including one (1) presented by local businessman and alumni supporter, Gary Pooni.
For the 2019-2020 season, the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association will award $31,500 in scholarships to youth in BC, plus the award in Gary's name.
BC Hockey is currently accepting applications for scholarships, including the five (5) Vancouver Canucks Alumni Scholarships. These include:
- Dan Hamhuis Scholarship
- Doug Lidster Scholarship
- Ceasar Maniao Scholarship
- Willie Mitchell Scholarship
- Darcy Rota Scholarship
These scholarships were named after BC-born Canucks alumni. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2020.
