Thank You Vanguard Family

Vanguard is honored to announce a $100,000 matching challenge donation in honor of Bill Borg from the Brad Livingstone family.

Mr. Livingstone began his teaching career more than 30 years ago. His elective courses on the History of World War II and the Vietnam War have impacted hundreds of students over the years.

“In honor of Bill Borg’s retirement year, my wife, Linda, and I are excited to join Vanguard’s Road to the 50th Campaign fundraising effort with a gift to the school. Vanguard has been a cornerstone of my teaching career, serving as my 'oasis' for many years.”

The Livingstones will match each new donor gift/pledge to the campaign up to $100,000 for donations made before August 31st.

The Road to the 50th Campaign has raised over $4 Million dollars on a $5.6 Million dollar campaign, working to create athletic facilities that will serve our students and families for many years to come.

Thank you, Bill Bewley!

Bill was inspired by the matching opportunity from the Livingstone's and increased his gift to the gym by $20,000 in honor of Bill Borg.

Bill's wife, Arminda Bewley, worked at Vanguard from 1977-2011 and was devoted to students and families. She was the smile at the front desk, testing center, and library, and was loved by all.

Thank you, Mr. Bewley!

Matthew Bailey '15 has joined the Vanguard faculty in the science department.

Matthew graduated from Baylor University with a B. S. in Education. Why Education? "I value the rigor that Vanguard applies to all of its students."

George Eichenberg '18 spoke to the yearbook and newspaper class taught by his mother, Gretchen Eichenberg, about professional skills.

George is a commercial banking representative at Commerce Bank based in Dallas, Texas.

Stef Harms Martin '94, Katie Starr O'Connor '94, and Michelle Wheelis Basden '94 ran into former faculty member for 33 Years Aline Leslie . Katie is on the list to be inducted into the Vanguard Athletic Hall of Fame on September 21st.

Adrian Northcutt '21 and Hai Nguyen '21 spoke to students in the 3 Vanguard robotic classes.

Adrian, an Aerospace Engineering student at CU Boulder, recently completed an internship at Blue Origin at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Hai, an Electrical Engineering major at Baylor and mentor to the Vanguard robotics team, is planning to graduate in December.

When asked how the robotics class was helpful in college, Hai said, "The exposure to the tools and problem solving skills propelled us ahead of our peers in engineering. We are privileged to use high quality 3D printers, laser cutters, as well as learning and applying design software to a problem. Most of my peers in college don’t have the experience and they have to play catch up basically. Also, it is better for us to learn multiple facets of engineering."

Alumni - Laurie Littlepage '92 and Ria Goyal '19 - Vanguard Alumni research path cross!

Having just finished her undergraduate degree, Goyal found herself working with “a lot of great grad students and post docs” in the lab of Dr. Laurie Littlepage, the Campbell Family Associate Professor of Cancer Research in the department of chemistry and biochemistry at Notre Dame.

Littlepage graduated from the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science to begin college two years early, attending Vanguard prior. She went on to the University of Texas and then earned a Ph.D. at Harvard, where Goyal will be starting medical school this month.

Former tennis teammates and captains, Grace Yoon '22 and Avery Haynes '22 visited Vanguard.

Grace, a data science major at the University of Michigan, completed an internship this summer at RXA @OneMagnify in data science.

Avery, a Chemical Engineering Student at Vanderbilt University, completed an internship for the Council for Inclusive Innovation Intern at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
