The #1 topic on the news now is the COVID pandemic. For many of you, that means staying at home, or taking part in activities that minimize contact with others. In this edition, the GVHS answers some of your questions with respect to EVENTS and offers some suggestions to keep members, including youth, busy during this period of time.
Note that the GVHS Registry offices are operating as usual.
March 18, GVHS News Release:
The Gypsy Vanner Horse Society is concerned about the health and safety of our members, staff and their families. We are monitoring information regarding the Coronavirus pandemic.
The decision to move forward with or cancel any Gypsy Vanner Horse Society recognized shows rests with show managers for those events. Show managers can best assess the conditions in an area considering the size of the event they host and that State's guidelines for public gatherings. The Gypsy Vanner Horse Society encourages the show managers to have a plan in place for the safety of the exhibitors for any event by limiting exposure and create social distancing as recommended by the CDC.

Remember to wash your hands like you would wash your Gypsy Vanner's white feather for show day!

Self-isolating and social distancing? Spend this time with your Gypsy Vanner!
- Trail riding with your Gypsy Vanner:
If you have interruptions with your usual training and riding schedule, enjoy your time and keep your Gypsy Vanner moving by going out on trail rides. Remember, if you are riding alone, be sure to let someone know where you are headed and when you expect to return. Take a cell phone if you can, to contact help in case of emergency.
- Grooming your Gypsy Vanner...it's SHEDDING season!
Get out those shedding blades, curry combs and clippers along with lots of elbow grease to help the transition from a woolly mammoth to a show ready Vanner!
- Groundwork fun with your Gypsy Vanner:
If you do not have accessible trails or a free arena, spend time on groundwork with your Gypsy Vanner. Build a mini trail obstacle course to practice, do work over poles, etc., and spend time gaining trust and respect with your equine partner.
- Spring cleaning your tack room and maintenance for your trailer.
Now is the time to go through your tack and supplies and do a thorough review of your trailer. Organize and clean. Do you have all essentials on hand for safe trailering to shows, for first aid, for grooming? It is likely that you will discover you actually have 3-4 of some items that could find a new home!
There are tips and checklists that can be found online. Also, reference past editions of The Vanner magazine to help you organize and prepare for shows and trailering.
