We can't believe how fast Summer Programming went! Our kids had such a great time on the courts and in our office. Tennis was a hit and we were able to open our classes up to many more participants than in the last 2 years. We were grateful we didn't have to cancel many tennis classes this summer, except for a couple of super hot days.
Educational programming also was a success with the help of our staff, volunteers, and community partners. A big shout out to them all for creating engaging and fun lessons for our kids. Kim Mackerlin from Cornell Cooperative Extension brought in some fun activities that highlighted the importance of healthy eating habits and physical activity. Kim even incorporated the herbs and vegetables from our garden in her lessons, which the kids loved!
Elaine Garrett from Suny Polytechnic Institute wowed our kids with some super fun STEM activities like learning about the James Webb Telescope using spin art. It was refreshing to see all the kids huddled around a table learning about the steps of the scientific method and surface area reactions. The educational support we receive from our community partners has helped us sustain our goal to deliver effective and fun content that keeps our kids engaged and avoiding the summer learning loss.
The biggest highlight of the summer was that we were able to hold our Jamboree at Washington Park after not having it for 2 years! To see all the smiling faces of kids having fun playing games while many parents watched on was definitely heartwarming. WTEN Channel 10 stopped by to check out all the fun we were having.
