Giving Kids the Advantage

MVP Health Care Brings

Summer Playground Olympics To Our Kids

This summer our participants were given the opportunity to participate in Playground Olympics that were created and sponsored by MVP Health Care.

This fun initiative was to honor July as National Parks and Recreation MonthKids were encouraged to go for the medals at parks across the region while learning about the many benefits that come with getting active outdoors. Participants each received a series of challenges that increased in difficulty as they moved up the ranks in medals from bronze to silver to gold. MVP even donated some fun games for each site to get the kids started on their challenge. They had a great time and loved playing cornhole, parachute and ring toss with each other.

A big thank you to MVP Health Care for always coming up with fun initiatives for our kids to try.

MVP Health Care also sponsored our Healthy Tips, which are handed out to all who participate in our Tennis and Healthy Living Programs each week over the summer.

"We love the partnership we have with MVP Health Care," said 15-LOVE Executive Director Amber Marino. "Both organizations have missions to assist families to find healthy ways to live better, making it easy to engage our participants. We are lucky to have their support."

Summer Programming Participants Had a Blast

We can't believe how fast Summer Programming went! Our kids had such a great time on the courts and in our office. Tennis was a hit and we were able to open our classes up to many more participants than in the last 2 years. We were grateful we didn't have to cancel many tennis classes this summer, except for a couple of super hot days.

Educational programming also was a success with the help of our staff, volunteers, and community partners. A big shout out to them all for creating engaging and fun lessons for our kids. Kim Mackerlin from Cornell Cooperative Extension brought in some fun activities that highlighted the importance of healthy eating habits and physical activity. Kim even incorporated the herbs and vegetables from our garden in her lessons, which the kids loved!

Elaine Garrett from Suny Polytechnic Institute wowed our kids with some super fun STEM activities like learning about the James Webb Telescope using spin art. It was refreshing to see all the kids huddled around a table learning about the steps of the scientific method and surface area reactions. The educational support we receive from our community partners has helped us sustain our goal to deliver effective and fun content that keeps our kids engaged and avoiding the summer learning loss.

The biggest highlight of the summer was that we were able to hold our Jamboree at Washington Park after not having it for 2 years! To see all the smiling faces of kids having fun playing games while many parents watched on was definitely heartwarming. WTEN Channel 10 stopped by to check out all the fun we were having. View the news coverage
