Giving Kids the Advantage

Winter Break Fun

Our office was a busy place during winter break this year with fun activities for our kids. Our Excellence participants began their week with the RPI Men and Women's tennis teams leading a clinic for our Excellence participants at TriCity Fitness.

The clinic was great - our kids had a blast and were left exhausted from working on their techniques. Their week ended with the tennis team stopping by our office on Wednesday to discuss tennis and college life during college prep.

Our kids had so many great questions for them and the RPI coach and athletes had great words of wisdom. Thank you so much to everyone that showed up to share their knowledge. After they left, our Excellence Participants jumped into their college prep session with 15-LOVE Education Director, Maxine Brisport.

"We had a productive week together," said Maxine. "It's so important to get everyone together to hear how school is going and to help them prepare for upcoming tests, projects, and for our seniors - college entrance requirements."

Our kids spent time working on some creative thinking activities that were geared to encourage them to work as a team and be more engaging with each other.

Our Healthy Futures and younger Excellence participants got a week of winter break fun with Healthy Living Director Anjalee Modasra and several volunteers. They enjoyed several demonstrations that focused on STEM, literacy and art.

Volunteer Ben Marino showed them the art of 3D printing. He printed up different ocean mammals for them to use in their science demonstration about oceanography. They loved their little dolphins and sharks. They also made slime, key chains, and foosball tables out of old shoe boxes and clothespins. The day wouldn't have been complete without some games that included Connect Four, Jenga and building a marble run.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered their time to hang out with our kids. We all had a blast!

15-LOVE Adult Tennis Lessons

Registration Now Open

We are happy to announce that we will be offering adult tennis lessons again starting on April 22nd. The 5-week Spring Social Adult classes are offered in two sessions each week, in Albany and Schenectady.

The first session kicks off with the Spring Social Adult Family Tennis Class on Saturday, April 22. The Family Class for ages 4 to adults is from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM at Michigan Ave. in Schenectady.

This Family Class is a beginner class for adults and kids to learn alongside each other using a ball progression format, including red, orange, green and yellow balls. Red, orange, and green balls use a smaller court and slower-bouncing balls. These three ball formats are geared toward new tennis players, which allows them to grasp the fundamentals of tennis at their own pace, including grips, preparation, swing path and ball placement. Yellow ball is what most people know as traditional tennis.

We encourage families to come out to play together, but adults are welcome to come by themselves and learn. Kids must attend with an adult. Kids will learn together, and adults will learn together.

The second session - Spring Social Adult Classes begins Wednesday, April 26 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM at Westland Hills Park in Albany, using a ball progression format. Adults will have the option to learn to play in a regular or red ball format.

The cost to attend each session is $25 per adult for the 5-week program (kids are free). No refunds will be given.

Racquets are available for purchase for $20. If you would like to purchase one, please email us prior to class and we'll have it ready for you.
