Complimentary Membership Program
Do you know someone new to the area? A family looking to "try out" a new congregation or a welcoming community to become a part of? Make sure to tell them about TST's Complimentary Membership Program which invites any first-time member/family to join with a free membership for their first year. Temple Shir Tikva is interested in hosting a
catered 21+ Adults only  New Years Eve party with Food, Drinks, DJ and Dancing at a cost of approximately $40 per person. What is the likelihood you would attend? Please take a minute to respond to the 1 question survey below. 

Ganeinu (Pre-K Program) Registration is OPEN!

If you haven't registered for our pre-kindergarten education program yet,  SIGN UP NOW! SPACE IS LIMITED!  Ganeinu this year is being taught by our own TST ELC teacher, Lisa Trefry for children ages 3.9 to 5-years-old. Children will learn and  experience the richness of Shabbat and holidays  through music, hands on activities, stories, texts and meaningful conversations. 
 
Members and non-members are welcome to sign up online now !
   
 
Classes will be held on the following Sundays from 9:00-11:00 am:
Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Nov. 4, Dec. 2, Jan. 13, Mar. 10, May 5
 
The cost for the class and all materials is $36 for members/$72 for non-members.  
 
TST Social 
Thursday, October 4, 7:30 pm
 
The TST Social is back, starting on Thursday, October 4,  7:30 pm  at the temple. Join us for a chance to hang out with your friends from the temple and play a game. Bring your favorite board game or join in on a fun game of Texas Hold'em poker. We will also be airing the Patriots game on Thursday night football. Refreshments will be served.

Domestic Violence Community March & Vigil
Tuesday, October 9, 6:00 pm

Join us in an interfaith community march & vigil against violence on Tuesday, October 9 with members of the Wayland Interfaith Leaders Association, the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable & the Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund. We will meet at the Islamic Center in Boston at 6pm and march 1 mile to the First Parish In Wayland where we will be joined on the lawn with members from neighboring congregations for a 7pm vigil. 


In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Thursday afternoon TST will be lit in purple for the month of October. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse please contact the Jewish Domestic Violence Coalition.

Reyim welcomes all to a fascinating evening of songs and stories about Woodie Guthrie and his progressive Yiddish poet mother-in-law, Aliza Greenblatt. The event features a multi-media presentation by Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter. There will also be a live performance by Lorin Sklamberg, lead singer of the Grammy award winning Klezmatics.

Gentle Yoga

Please join Sandy Honeyman, temple member and 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher for Gentle Yoga. The class can be combined with Wednesday weekly Torah study. 
 
No previous yoga experience required but class is designed for those who can comfortably get up and down from a yoga mat. (Special arrangements can be made for those with more limited mobility.)
 
Yoga offers the opportunity to quiet and focus the mind, and to improve physical strength and balance. There will be no fee for this class, but you do need to RESERVE YOUR SPOT
  
Flourishing Group
Thursdays, October 11, November 8, December 13, January 10, February 7, 7:30 pm   

Come learn about positive psychology and Judaism, and how both together can help you flourish. Positive Psychology is an emerging field that focuses on the study of the strengths and virtues that enables individuals and communities to thrive. Drawing on a variety of traditions and disciplines, positive psychology offers science-based techniques that can lead you to a happier and more fulfilling life. The messages and techniques of positive psychology align with Jewish tradition, and both inform and support each other in interesting ways. Come learn with Mary Beth Rettger and Rabbi Danny as we explore these practices together. (You can come for the whole series, or join us for single topics).
  
Family Promise Training Session 
Thursday, October 18, 7:00-8:30 pm

 
Family Promise Metrowest (FPM) is a community response to family homelessness. Host congregations and volunteers provide safe, temporary shelter and meals on a rotating basis while professional staff assist families in reaching goals that end the cycle of homelessness.  

New volunteers are required to attend a one-time, 90-minute Family Promise volunteer training session prior to registering on CERVIS, the Family Promise scheduling hub. If you are a new volunteer and have not attended a training session in the past please plan on attending one at TST on Thursday, October 18, from 7-8:30 pm. Advance registration for the training is not necessary.

It is preferable but not necessary to attend all sessions. There is no fee for this class.
Monday Mornings: Prophetic Visions of the  Sacred Impossible (Session 1)
November 26, December 10 & 17, January 7, 14 & 28, 9:30-11:00am
Attendance at all classes within a session is preferred. Class fee is $18. 

For nearly 30 years, Rabbi Ullman has gained a devoted following across New England and the world with his unique style of illuminating the words of Torah to provide profound relevance for our contemporary lives. By wrestling alongside his students with literal and hidden meanings embedded in the ancient texts, Rabbi Ullman sparks lively, insightful conversation and helps us discover what is sacred in our everyday lives. 

You may recognize Rabbi Alan Ullman's name from our Scholar-in-Residence in spring of 2017. We are pleased to bring Rabbi Ullman's warmth and wisdom to our community for FOUR SEPARATE STUDY SESSIONS this coming year, including a 4-week EVENING session for the very first time! No previous experience or knowledge is necessary. We welcome you to try out one or more events throughout the year.

Children's Clothing Drive 
 Children's Clothing Closet - A Jewish Family Service of MetroWest Initiative

 
TST is proud to partner with JFS of Metrowest. Help support your local community by donating new or very gently used/excellent used items for immigrant children in the MetroWest. TST will be holding clothing drives as well as ongoing monthly collections to support this initiative. There will be bins in the lobby to place your items in.  
 
Immediately, we are looking for the following items in sizes 4-18 and xs-xxxl:  
* Jeans/School Pants
* Sweatshirts/Sweaters
* Snow pants
 
We've made it easy to donate by creating an Amazon Wish List that will be updated periodically!
 
If you'd like to help volunteer to support this initiative, please contact Jackie Adelson, Committee Chair. We will need all the help we can get sorting and bringing clothes to JFS in Framingham.

R eyim invites you to enjoy delicious food and wine as Shir Tikva transforms itself back into a restaurant - Italian, that is. Change tables as we change courses to meet new and catch up with old friends. To complement the meal, an experienced emcee will take us on a guided tour of lively music and dance through the ages.

E.B. White's treasured story of the friendship between a pig and a spider comes to life in Theatreworks USA's production of "Charlotte's Web." Based on the Newbery Medal-winning book, this treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship. Held at the Leventhal-Sidman Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Monday, October 8.
