Spread Some Light
|
Sunday, December 9
4:00 - 5:00 pm
Our neighbors at Carriage House (134 Boston Post Road, Wayland) are looking forward to sharing Chanukah with us. We can help bring the Festival of Lights into their home at 4:00PM each afternoon during the 8 nights of Chanukah (December 2-9).
This is a great way for members of all ages to do a mitzvah and help build community. The residents enjoy hearing Chanukah stories, singing songs, and saying the prayers as you light the candles together.
We hope to have at least 2 people per night for all 8 nights - bring your kids and grand kids along! A menorah and candles will be there for your use. Feel free to bring a Chanukah story book to read and some dreidels to spin!

My Child/Grandchild is Jewish - The Basics Class |
Thursdays, January 17, 24, 31
7:30 pm
Today we have parents and grandparents of various faith traditions who have Jewish children and grandchildren. What are the basics of Judaism that they will want to know to feel comfortable and welcomed in our TST community?
This course offered by Rabbi Danny is geared for people of other religious traditions to learn the basics about Judaism.
Judaism 101 will be an overview of Jewish religious beliefs, history and basic themes.
We can't cover everything in one session, but this will provide a good foundation with a heavy focus on the Jewish calendar (weekly Shabbat-Sabbath, festivals & major holidays) and the Jewish lifecycle (what are the various moments in a person's life Judiasm celebrates/marks and what these celebrations mean).

One History. One Text. Two Paths |
Thursdays, Jan. 17, 24, 31, (Monday Feb 4), Feb. 14, 28 & Mar. 7

Join Rabbi Jordi for an exploration of the moment in history from which Judaism as we know it and Christianity each emerged. We will delve into the world of Judaism two millennia ago, focusing on the creation and divergence of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism. Where did these distinct religions come from? What were their shared roots? How did Jewish life then lead to the Judaism(s) and Christianity(s) as we know them, today? What did the Maccabees have to do with it? How did the Apostle Paul fit int the picture? And, just who were the Essenes anyway?

California Wildfire Relief: A Personal Note from Rabbi Jordi |
"As have many of you, I have been strongly impacted by the news from California (my home state) regarding the wildfires there. In Southern California, the Jewish camps that were destroyed (Camps Hess Kramer, Hilltop, and JCA Shalom) were camps that I attended for programs throughout my childhood and teen years, and their loss hits hard. I've been in touch with my close friends Rabbi Julia Weisz and Rabbi Paul Kipnes at Congregation Or Ami in Calabasas, CA (which was also impacted by the shooting in Thousand Oaks last week). The fire made it to their parking lot, scorching their sign; thankfully, it did not reach their building, though they have extensive smoke damage. About 80% of their congregation was evacuated over the last week and a number of their congregants have lost their homes. Their team has been running a day camp and adult hangout space at De Toledo, a local pluralistic Jewish high school, for local synagogues and others to gather, get a hug, breathe, and coordinate. Volunteers having been coming by daily to check in on congregants and to find out who needs immediate help.
For those who would like to support this congregation and the surrounding communities, the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) has posted information and donation links.
I invite you to join me in supporting their efforts and to lend a helping hand."
