High Holy Day Mailing
With summer winding down, here at TST we are excitedly planning for fall!

Our newly designed High Holy Day Guide was mailed to all members.  All forms are due back to the office no later than Friday, September 1.

Thank you to our members who have returned their Dues Commitment forms and have either paid their dues in full or have chosen one of our payment options.

Please remember that in order to receive High Holy Day tickets, you must be a member in good standing. If you have not returned your yellow Dues Commitment form, please click here , fill out and return to Toni Spitzer in the office.

Among the information you will find in the guide is that childcare for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur is now free for the children of temple members.
We will not be accepting any late registrations or walk-ins this year, so please register by September 1 - space is limited.

We look forward to welcoming in the new year together!
New Director of Youth Engagement
Temple Shir Tikva welcomes Jenna Friedman as our new Director of Youth Engagement. Jenna grew up in Westchester, New York.  She attended Tufts University, majoring in English and minoring in Film Studies.

Jenna worked as a counselor at URJ's camp Eisner for 4 summers, and credits her deep passion for Judaism to her years as a camper at Eisner.  She was President, and 4 time executive board member of Tufts University Friends of Israel, organizing campus wide events, and leading outreach to students. As Tufts Hillel Holidays co-chair, she designed and organized religious and cultural programming. She developed and taught a course for incoming college freshmen on the media of comics and film at Tufts University Experimental College. She designed youth-oriented tours and led art activities for the Museum of Fine Arts, and was a 7th and 8th grade English and Spanish tutor.  She is also a slam poet and monologue author and performer, and a "retired" soft ball player.

She is excited to continue working with the Jewish community as our Director of Youth Engagement and to share her passions with our community. We are thrilled that she will play an important role in our new shared partnership with the Metro-West Jewish Teens Initiative. JTI is a nationally recognized model for Jewish teen engagement, focused on building relationships across agencies, synagogues, camps, and day schools, to meet teens where they are and help to both strengthen their connections to the Jewish community and broaden the menu of opportunities available to them. Jenna will will coordinate and meet with a group of 16- 18 peer leadership fellows in our Metro-West area, including two of our own teens.
Adult Education: Learning with Rabbi Ullman
The Adult Education Committee Presents: Rabbi Ullman: A Cord of Hope

An exploration on teachings about hope as found in a number of different passages in the Text and in our tradition. How we might understand these teachings in our lives today? What is authentic and sacred hope and what hopes are in vain; how do we learn to discern the differences?

Monday mornings from 9:30 am - 11
The seven-week session will be held on:
September 11, 18, 25
October 2,16
November 6,27

Each class is limited to 20 members.
Interested? Place your name on the list with Toni in the office (508-358-9992 or [email protected], and we will draw the first 20 names for the class by lottery on September 1.

Tuition: $36, payable once your name is chosen for a spot in the class.
If you have any questions, please contact Toni in the office.

Simchat Shabbat, BBQ and Open House
Friday, September 8, 6:15 p.m.
Simchat Shabbat, Summer BBQ, and Open House
Come for our beautiful Simchat Shabbat service and stay for a casual BBQ dinner in our courtyard. Hamburgers, kosher hot dogs and veggie burgers, along with pareve and gluten free buns will be provided.

Participants are asked to bring a non-dairy side dish, non-dairy dessert or soft drink to share. Imagine welcoming Shabbat together then sharing a meal.

The kids can then run around, play ball or toss a Frisbee while the adults hang out together under the setting sun.
LLAIC...Lifelong Learners: An Independent Collaborative
LLAIC offers all Shir Tikva members (and their parents) free membership to its program of interesting and intellectually stimulating courses for older adults. All classes are held at Shir Tikva!

We are a peer taught and peer managed organization that provides interesting course material and lunch time speakers at your synagogue. Plus we offer special interest programs such as local trips, French conversation, book group, dinner theatre events and a movie club; perks your free membership includes.

Because we are a peer-run organization we seek to keep course tuition low and affordable. Our classes, running 10 weeks or 5 weeks, take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning this fall on September 7th. To learn more please go to our website: www.llaic.org
and look there for the course offerings, class schedule and lunch speaker schedule. From the homepage you will see a link to the registration page.
