Non-Residential Building Permits Topped $279 Million in First Half of 2018
|
Statistics Canada ranked Vaughan 9th in the country in value of non-residential permits, and 13th overall. During the first half of 2018, the City of Vaughan issued more than $279 million in non-residential permits accounting for 56 percent of all permits. Total building permits issued topped $495.8 million.

Promenade Mall Redevelopment Plans Submitted
|
Liberty Development has submitted the first phase of a redevelopment plan for Promenade Mall, located on Bathurst Street. The proposed redevelopment includes expansion and modernization of the mall, three residential apartment towers, a 28-storey, mixed-use building containing offices and a hotel.

Highway 427 Expansion - Update
|
Huntington Road closure
Improving transportation at the City of Vaughan is a major priority. As part of the Highway 427 Expansion Project, the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Huntington Road was permanently closed on June 30. Alternate routes are available between Highway 27 and Highway 50 on Major Mackenzie Drive which leads to Rutherford Road/Langstaff Road to the south.

PwC Set to Open New Office in 2019

Construction update
Construction on the new regional headquarters for the international consulting firm PwC is well underway in the Vaughan Metropolitan Ce
ntre. The tower is now structurally complete, and almost entirely enclosed. The building will also house a 10,000 square foot Vaughan public library bran
ch, a City
of Vaughan Studio Dance Space, a new YMCA, and retail space.

Cirque du Soleil comes to Vaughan
Cirque du Soleil has chosen Vaughan Mills as the site of its first family entertainment centre in Canada-CREACTIVE-opening in 2019. This new venture by the global entertainment company fulfills an opportunity that arises from the transformation of retail around the world, as developers are increasingly looking to offer entertainment experiences that turn malls into holistic destinations. CREACTIVE will offer a range of acrobatic, artistic and other Cirque du Soleil-inspired recreational activities, such as bungee jumping, aerial parkour, wire and trampolines, mask design, juggling, circus track activities, dance and more.

Canada's Wonderland getting new capital investments

Cedar Fair, parent company of Canada's Wonderland, has announced a dual-branded Hyatt Place-Hyatt House hotel on the property of the amusement park. Construction is set to begin in early 2019, with the hotel expected to open in late 2020, and it will feature 203 rooms on a 16-acre parcel of land.

The company also announced that Canada's Wonderland will also soon undergo the biggest capital investments in the park's history, with the addition of a new themed arena, an immersive holiday event, and the addition of the world's tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster.

A big congratulations to Vaughan's 17 Summer Company participants on successfully completing the program! The students received training, mentorship from the local business community, and a provincial grant as they launched businesses over the summer. 95% of participants are planning to continue their business as they return to school!

Thanks to a contribution from the Saputo facility in Vaughan, the tennis courts at Torii Park were rejuvenated for the community's enjoyment and culminated in an unveiling event with excited residents, the Mayor, and Members of Council.
