Summer is heating up, and so is the momentum at the Vaughan Institute. From summer internships to industry events, our students, alumni, and partners are making waves across the country. Whether they’re diving into hands-on learning or helping shape the future of risk management, the Vaughan community continues to lead with purpose and energy.

Cindy Meis, Director

Cindy leads the Tippie Undergraduate Career Services Team and focuses on strategic employer engagement, connections, and career readiness initiatives for business students. She also collaborates with faculty and partners across campus to provide professional development opportunities and support.

Cal Wagner, Employer Relations Specialist

Cal cultivates recruiting and hiring opportunities for Tippie students, with a primary focus on Des Moines and the broader Midwest. He supports student organizations with funding requests, professional development initiatives, and employer treks to connect students with industry professionals. In addition, he coordinates employer involvement in key programs like Insure Your Future, which introduces students to careers in risk and insurance.

Dana Powers, Assistant Director

Dana supports our Tippie Professional Preparation (Pro Prep) course and delivers presentations across classes and student groups to equip students with career development skills. She also provides individual career coaching and contributes to our outcomes reporting efforts.

Sarah Davis, Assistant Director

Sarah leads our outreach and communications strategy, including emails to segmented populations of students, LinkedIn, and web and digital channels. She works with students as part of 1:1 career meetings and she also supports undergraduate instruction.

Insure Your Future Kick-Off & Initial Sessions

With a record-breaking 103 freshman and sophomore participants—a 26% increase over last year—the Insure Your Future program continues to gain momentum across Iowa. We’re especially proud that 41 of these students are Hawkeyes. While many of these young students begin with little to no knowledge of the industry, this unique program provides an early opportunity to explore career paths, leading to an impressive 92% return rate to the industry the following year.

This summer, students are engaging in leadership sessions hosted by top industry employers, including Principal, Berkley Insurance, Wellmark, Transamerica, and Holmes Murphy. These events bring together students, employers, and senior leaders for valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and grow.

We are incredibly grateful to the many top industry executives who are sharing their time, insights, and career advice to support the next generation of risk management and insurance professionals.

It’s energizing to see leading insurance and financial services employers, top Iowa universities, and partners like the Iowa Insurance Division and economic development leaders coming together to address the growing need for future-ready talent.
