Over the past year, I have openly communicated the budget challenges facing Kent School District (KSD) and other school districts in our region. Declining enrollment, expiring federal funding, and inflationary cost pressures have contributed to these budget challenges. I am excited to share a photo of our Student Athlete Leadership Team or SALT. These student-athletes have been nominated by their coaches, teachers, and athletic directors to represent their individual schools as part of a districtwide focus group to tackle issues and lend student voice.

We have begun a new partnership with the Kent Parks and Recreation Department. This partnership initiative, led by Athletics and Activities Director Brian Smith, will provide access to larger meeting spaces free of charge. I thank both Brian and Kent Parks for their collaboration which paves the way for future endeavors aimed at strengthening the bond between the district and the City of Kent.
