The final round of the 2023 WSCGA Team Championship at Darlington Country Club was thrilling. The day turned out to be beautiful after a 30 minute frost delay, a high of 64 degrees, and a format of Modified Alternate shot. Lea Venable/Skye Two Hawks Skenandore went into the final round with a 5 shot lead over the team of Jayne Pardus and Emily Rapp. Venable/Skenandore tripped out of the gate starting the round with a triple bogey, but that didn't stop them from buckling down and kicking it into next gear. They finished the rest of the round carding 3 birdies to post a two over for the day, 74. Pardus and Rapp were consistent all day, but couldn't get the putts to fall. Venable/Skenandore took the Championship with a two-day total 141 to win by 6 shots.
Winning the Overall State Division title by making four birdies in a row to come from behind was the duo of Suzann Bartley and Natalie Huff. Bartley/Huff posted a one under par 71 today to edge out the first round leaders and win by two. Bartley/Huff posted the most birdies of any team today with a total of 4.
The First Flight in the State Division top three teams consisted of Linda Morris/Pam Prescott, Jeanie Atkinson/Elaine Johnson, and Lee Burton/Dawn Swit. Morris and Prescott took the First Flight championship shooting a 151 to beat Atkinson/Johnson and Burton/Swit by three shots.
The Second Flight was won by the team of Kari King and Cathy Liggett carding an 82 for a two day total of 158 to be tied with the team of Cynthia Andereck and Judy Hair. King/Liggett won the title in a scorecard playoff that went 12 holes. Finishing third in the Second Flight was the team of Lynn McElveen and Cheryl Windham who posted a two-day total 161.
Two shots separated the leaders in the Third Flight between Lola Bradshaw/Cathy Robinson and Jean Burns/Ida Menendez posting 165 and 167, respectively. Finishing third in the Third Flight was Connie Liley and Carole Stone just 6 shots out of first.
