What's Happening
The Venetian Causeway Water and Sewer Main Replacement project is underway. The contractor is working to replace the old water and sewer main with new pipes that will be installed underground.
Timeline Updates
On Wednesday, January 11, non-hazardous drilling fluids known as a frac-out spilled into Biscayne Bay. All drilling and spillage ceased within minutes of the notification. The contractor will be placing a turbidity curtain near Rivo Alto as a precautionary measure.
Due to the release of drilling fluids, the contractor was unable to pull back the pipe. Please know that this minor setback has not caused the contractor to fall behind schedule.
The city's Regulatory Compliance team is in contact with relevant regulatory agencies to follow up on any reporting requirements that may apply. The Contractor is currently carrying out their approved frac-out plan, and our Construction Management team is closely coordinating with them and the Engineer of Record to proceed with drilling operations.
Weekend work has been approved for this Saturday, January 14, 2023, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To comply with the City's noise ordinance, no construction machinery will be operating before 10 a.m. If necessary, the contractor may work outside of these hours, but noise levels will be kept to a minimum.
Weekend work is approved on a case-by-case basis. Please be aware that construction workers may be present on the site before any work begins.
