The Venetian Causeway Water and Sewer Main Replacement project is underway. The contractor is working to replace the old water and sewer main with new pipes that will be installed underground.
Project Update
This project has returned to Phase II (final phase) and pipe connections will take place between Rivo Alto and Belle Isle. Please review the following list for an overview of what to expect during this period of construction:
- Vacuum and tanker trucks will be present on the islands of San Marino, Dilido and Rivo Alto.
- All pump stations on these islands will be shut down during the pipe connection.
- Sewage will be pumped out and transported to the Belle Isle pump station by tanker and vacuum trucks. Due to weight constraints on the bridge, these vehicles will not be fully loaded, necessitating the use of more trucks than usual.
To keep traffic flowing, we ask that all vehicles, including commercial vehicles, refrain from parking on the road. The city's Parking and Police Departments have also committed to increased enforcement during this traffic change.
Timeline
The contractor has been approved to conduct force main connections next week. This work will begin late Wednesday, August 23, 2023 and end on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Please understand that this is a continuous, overnight operation.
A full project closeout will take place by the end of the fall 2023. The project team anticipates that all traffic impacts will be removed by end of September 2023. Regular work hours will continue Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with weekend work approved on a case-by-case basis.
Please know that this schedule may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Phase II – Traffic Changes
- The eastbound lane on Venetian Way between Island Ave will be closed.
- The eastbound lane on Venetian Way between East and West Rivo Alto will be closed.
- The westbound bike lanes and sidewalks will be open.
- The eastbound bike lanes and sidewalks will be closed.
- Left turn from Century Lane onto Venetian Way (eastbound) will be restricted.
- Traffic on Belle Isle will be redirected through Island Ave south.
