NEWS

Alongside Hope is raising funds for 25 more Solar Suitcases in Mozambique

Thanks to the generosity of Canadian Anglicans, since 2016 Alongside Hope has been steadily lighting up health clinics in Nampula Province of Mozambique. With the installation of a Solar Suitcase – 115 in total so far – our partners at EHALE have been able to improve quality of care for patients, especially women giving birth in the dark of night.

Ten years later, we’re at it again, raising funds for another 25 Solar Suitcases. The Solar Suitcase looks like a bright yellow suitcase, but it opens to reveal two medical grade lights, a fetal Doppler, cellphone and tablet charging stations, and two headlamps. The suitcase is mounted to the clinic wall and connected to a solar panel on the roof. Each suitcase costs $6,500, which includes delivery, installation and training.

Read more about the impact of these Solar Suitcases on nurse Sitoe, patient José and midwife Joaquim.

You can also find fundraising resources here to bring this project to your parish.

See Watt's Possible and register for the Wild Ride!

The 2026 Wild Ride is underway, and there's still time to sign up, choose your challenge and fundraise to make a difference in the West Bank.

Some of our awesome participants include Bishop Bruce Myers, who's biking the 70 km Royal Road in Quebec, pausing at each of the islands seven churches to offer a prayer for St. Luke's Hospital in honour of Alongside Hope. Noah Mittleholtz from the Youth Council is organizing a Deanery-wide walk to Bishophurst in the Diocese of Algoma.

You can use this video above to find more information about how to register.

World Day of Prayer for Creation Service

As we begin the 2026 Season of Creation, join For the Love of Creation for an online prayer service inspired by this year's theme, Living Water, and symbol, Immersion in Living Water. The theme draws on Ezekiel's vision of waters that bring healing, renewal, and abundant life for all creation. Together, we'll pray for ecological justice, deepen our connection to God's creation, and renew our commitment to caring for our common home. All are welcome.

Save the date: Light for St. Luke's Update

Over the past few months, Anglicans across Canada have come together to support Light for St. Luke's, a fundraising campaign to purchase and install 407 solar panels at St. Luke's Hospital in the West Bank.

Alongside Hope supporters have raised more than $130,000 for this campaign so far, which has been matched by a donor. That's enough to cover 300 solar panels. We want to express our gratitude. Because of these generous donations, St. Luke's Hospital will soon run on clean, solar powered energy. Operations can continue despite power outages, vaccines and medications will stay at their required temperatures and patients can be treated on clean, sterilized linens.

Want to learn more about your impact on St. Luke's Hospital? Join us on September 10 at 1 p.m. ET on zoom to hear more about the project, how it's progressing and what's in store for the future.
