This photo (taken in 1936) from our weekly Facebook feature "From the Archives" takes us back to a time before the internet, cell phones, personal computers and many, many other advances in technology. Today our students across the globe are able to learn (or at least are trying to learn) virtually, as we face this pandemic crisis. However, we all miss seeing children playing together freely and learning in school, as before the pandemic began. This photo shows students from the North District School in Marshfield Hills. The caption provided by Town Historian Cynthia Hagar Krusell (who is in the photo!) reads, "This is my class when I was in the first grade at the North District School in Marshfield Hills. Actually, this picture included the first, second, and third graders. The North School was a two-room district school and contained all first to sixth graders in two rooms with just two teachers. I went to this school for five and a half years until 1940 when the Grace Ryder School was built and we were moved to the South School located on Ocean Street." Spring Photography

If the expression, "April showers bring May flowers" is correct this year, we anticipate a huge blooming of spring flowers in May!

To celebrate spring and nature, we are hosting a "Spring Photography Event" during the month of May on our Facebook page. We hope to create a beautiful virtual garden of flowers, trees, and natural wonders of spring. Join us by submitting no more than 2 photos per person in a .jpg format to nhickey@ocln.org.
The Great Courses

This week's featured course, "How to View and Appreciate Great Movies," is taught by professional filmmaker and award-winning professor Eric R. Williams (MFA, Media Arts and Studies: Ohio University). Williams takes the viewer behind the scenes to explore: storytelling and screenwriting; production techniques; and how important acting is to character development and movie quality.

Virtual Poetry Events
Plymouth Poet Laureate Delbos Reading

We are honored to host a virtual poetry reading by Plymouth Poet Laureate Stephan Delbos in observance of National Poetry Month (first presented on our Facebook page on April 18, 2020). Delbos reads five poems from his collected writings, some with a local focus. The reading will remain available on video for future enjoyment so all can re-visit his evocative language and imagery. Explore the richness that poetry can add to our daily lives. Click Here! for a link to the video.
Pink LemonAid Virtual Event

In case you missed it, we are hosting a broadcast event of a very special program that took place on October 26, 2019 in Ventress Library's Program Room. The event, held in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, featured local writers Dzvinia Orlowsky and Elaine Sorrentino for "When life hands you lemons…Pink LemonAid: Breast Cancer-Inspired Stories, Poetry and Art." The library is honored to present the program in its entirety to you in our virtual space in observance of National Poetry Month. The video will remain posted online for artistic appreciation and cancer support.  Click Here! to view the video of the event in its entirety.
