We are delighted to host the South of Boston Board Game Meetup on Saturday, November 6 from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Library Plaza Program Room. The group began two years ago as an inclusive community of board gamers in the South Shore area and beyond. Their goal is to bring people together to share their love of board games in a welcoming and friendly environment. Come by and play games like Azul: Summer Pavilion, Wingspan, and Bohnanza. Never heard of any of these games? That's okay! New and veteran players welcome. Also, have a game you don't play? Bring a game to swap with other attendees. This free meetup is open to high school-aged teens and adults of all ages. No registration is required.
The Ventress Memorial Library is also excited to announce drop-in hours at The Wave Makerspace over in the Teen Zone. Join us Wednesdays from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. to use our 3D printer, our Cricut, and more! Drop-in hours are open to teens ages 12 and up and adults of all ages. November dates are 11/3, 11/10, and 11/17. There will be no drop-in on 11/24. No registration is required for drop-in hours. And finally, Gentle Floor Yoga class with Linda Evans will continue in November and December 2021 on Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. - register here on our online Calendar of Events.

Giving Tuesday, the National Day of Giving, takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 30 this year). If you love the Ventress Library, this is the day to show your support by donating to the Friends of the Ventress Library. The Friends provide direct financial support to the Library beyond what the town supplies and allows the library to purchase materials and services that don’t fit within its municipal budget. So this Giving Tuesday, take a few minutes to donate to the Friends of the Library. There's more than one way to give.
-
To make a donation, click here, mail your donation to the Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 298, Marshfield MA 02050, or drop off your donation to the Friends when you visit the library.
- Visit the Jean Christensen Book Nook, located to the right of the Check Out Desk. The Nook is stocked with both adult fiction and non-fiction selections. Children's books are displayed outside the Children's Room, and a bookcase in the nearby corridor houses books for tween and teen readers.
-
Use AmazonSmile for your online purchases and designate the Friends of the Ventress as your charity. You can do this by using the online Amazon store or the app. Just visit AmazonSmile to get started. If you use the app, open the app and find ’Settings’ in the main menu (☰). Thanksgiving Traditions
Join us on Thursday, November 18 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. for a lecture on "Thanksgiving Traditions", featuring local historian Regina Porter in the Library Plaza Program Room. Did you know that the American Thanksgiving holiday is based on the English secular celebration Harvest Home? Regina will address the roots of this holiday, first as a “Holy Day” then “over the river and through the woods” to examine the role women have played in this holiday. Regina will truss the story together with a look at how our past has shaped our current traditions of football, turkey, and Homecoming. This event is free and open to the public; no registration is required - click here for more information.

Tween & Teen Updates
Library tween programs are for older kids in grades 3 - 5 and teen programs are for middle and high school folks in grades 6 - 12. We have a new tween space in the Children's Room, and we've updated our Teen Room to include more seating and shelving. This now fully teens-only space is open for teens in grades 6 - 12 to hang out and study in. Tweens and teens can now reserve our November Loot Bag - the theme is International Games Week, with print and play games and more - register here.
For tweens, we have an exciting new book club: Tween Book Buddies! Join us Tuesday, November 16 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Library Plaza Conference room. Pick up copies of our November book, The Lotterys Plus One by Emma Donoghue, at the check out desk and register here. Take this short survey to help us select future books. We are all booked for Tween Makers (open to grades 3 - 6) in November but we still have slots open for December 7 - register here to learn how to use the 3D Printer, the Cricut, and more!
And teens, there's still room in our in-person fall Dungeons & Dragons campaign! We are running Dragon Heist, an urban campaign that takes place in Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms. We cause mayhem and get up to no good... - register here. Also, stay tuned for future in-person one-off sessions where you bring your own character (or use one of ours) to play mini games and epic battles with other teens. Interested but not able to play just now? Join our Discord to connect with other local teen D&D fans! Also, be sure to sign up for our all new Teen Leadership Council on November 10 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. to help plan library programs and more - register here.
