Ventress Voice
October 2021, Volume 4, Issue 10
October is a spooky month at the Ventress Memorial Library! This month's issue of the Ventress Voice highlights all of our upcoming programs for children, tweens, teens, and adults. Keep reading below for more information. As always, visit our Calendar of Events, Facebook page, and Instagram to stay up to date all month long, as all events are subject to change.

We are excited to invite you to join our Books with a Boo! program. This month we will celebrate the spooky season by creating book displays for our favorite Halloween books! This is a whole library program, as all ages are encouraged to join in the fun. Register here and stop by the Children's Room to select the Halloween book you will use for your display. Every registration comes with a bag of bits to get you started and an information packet about the program. Beginning October 16, we will display all of the wonderfully frightful creations around the library! If you have any questions, call us at (781) 834-5535.
Saturday Concert
Performed by Kareem Sanjaghi Band

Join us on Saturday, October 16 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. for a live concert featuring the Kareem Sanjaghi Band in the Library Plaza Program Room. This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Marshfield Cultural Council. The Kareem Sanjaghi Band will perform songs from the Great American Songbook including jazz, latin, and swing standards.

Kareem has been playing drums for 20 years and spent 10 years performing with the late jazz trumpet legend, Lou Colombo. The Band has performed at venues all over New England. This event is free and open to the public; no registration is required. Visit for more information.
Tuesday Night Lecture
New England
Witchcraft Tales

Join us on Tuesday, October 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. for a lecture featuring author Roxie Zwicker. This presentation will guide you through witchcraft stories from western Massachusetts to New Hampshire and Maine for some interesting and largely unknown tales. Zwicker, author of 8 books on history, legends, and lore, will also highlight the evolution of customs and superstitions relating to witchcraft in New England. Attendees might find themselves checking underneath their front doorstep or in their backyards for remnants of these stories! This event is free and open to the public; no registration is required. Visit for more information.
Children's Updates

The Children’s Room is excited to welcome October! We have many great weekly programs which can be found on our children's calendar. Please note that registration is required (unless otherwise noted) for everyone who will be attending. For more information on library programs and to register, click here. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (781) 834-5535.

To start the Halloween season off right, join us for our Monster Tea Party on Saturday, October 16 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Winslow House. On Friday, October 22 from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m., we are pleased to welcome back Amy Conley for a final Family Music Party in the Children’s program room. Join us on Saturday, October 23 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. when we will enjoy a short movie, Toy Story of Terror, as well as a snack, drink and some fun themed crafts. Lastly, we will participate in Trick or Treat Marshfield on Saturday, October 30 at 12:00 p.m. Wear your costume for a special Halloween Storytime and to trick or treat at the library!

We are also excited to partner with Joanna Roderiques for the Creating Confident Readers program which will be held on Thursday, October 28 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Designed for parents of elementary school children, this event will be a great opportunity to learn more about dyslexia and connect with a professional literacy tutor.

As always, please check our Calendar of Events and Facebook for the most current information on the fall schedule. While we are excited for all of these events and programs, we also know that things are unpredictable right now. In the interest of keeping everyone safe and healthy, our schedule may be subject to change on short notice.
